2012 Dealer Expo and American V-Twin Dealer Show a Huge Success

28 02 2012

Increased Attendance and Onsite Buying Expand Opportunities for Dealers

Show Attendees Spend $1.28 Million at Onsite Vehicle Auction in Just Two Hours

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – February 28, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Dealer Expo, the premier global powersports trade show reported a six percent increase in retail/buyer attendance compared to the prior year’s event. The growth in attendees was greatest from franchised dealerships, specialty retailers, online retailers and big box stores, including Costco and Amazon.com. The diverse expansion in attendees points to increased consumer interest in the powersports aftermarket and motorcycling in general. Displaying the complete range of parts, accessories, tools, business services, vehicles and apparel, more than 700 exhibitors showcased the most exciting products available in the powersports market at the Indiana Convention Center earlier this month (February 17-19, 2012).

The inaugural American V-Twin Dealer Show, launched as a co-located event with Dealer Expo, attracted 2,018 onsite buyers including Harley-Davidson dealers, franchised dealers with cruiser lines, independent V-Twin dealers and custom builders – all communities with specific business needs.

“Nearly every segment showed attendance growth across the board at Dealer Expo and the American V-Twin Dealer Show this year,” said Advanstar Executive Vice President Daniel Phillips. “Mass merchandisers, franchised dealers and online retailers were all up more than five percent, with specialty service retailers up 166 percent and outdoor retailers up more than 500 percent. Our exhibitors were the real winners – a large number of them reported increased onsite orders this year as they took advantage of the expanded range of high-spending buyers we delivered at the show.”

Demonstrating the continuing value of the pre-owned sector and the increased spending of Dealer Expo and American V-Twin Dealer Show attendees, National Powersport Auctions (NPA) hosted a live pre-owned vehicle auction, securing more than $1.28 million in two hours, from the sale of 152 Harley-Davidson and metric motorcycles to attendees.

The 2012 Dealer Expo and the American V-Twin Dealer Show offered both exhibitors and attendees greater value than ever before with more features including: product demonstrations; a live build on the Builder’s Stage; fashion shows; the Ultimate Dealer Custom Bike Show; educational seminars by Dealership University valued at $15,000 per attendee; a Saturday night industry party at Lucas Oil Stadium; and more. In addition, 193 registered members of the media – the largest media turnout in Dealer Expo history – attended Friday’s dedicated media preview and stayed to cover the powersports weekend extravaganza, generating more news than ever about the impressive lineup of innovative new products making world debuts.

The 2012 Dealer Expo and the first-ever American V-Twin Dealer Show destination event took place February 17-19, 2012, at the Indiana Convention Center, 1000 South Capitol Ave, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dealer Expo and the American V-Twin Dealer Show are open to qualified members of the powersports retail trade. For more information please visit www.dealerexpo.com, or www.vtwinshow.com.

According to the TRB, its mission is to promote innovation and progress in transportation through research, and to this end, it incorporates more than 200 committees composed of individuals who share an interest and expertise in transportation. The Motorcycles and Mopeds Committee is concerned with all aspects of motorcycles and mopeds, including the operator, the vehicle and the transportation environment.

“Each TRB standing committee brings together experts in a specific field from academic, practitioner, user and industry sectors, and from all levels of government,” said TRB Transportation Safety Coordinator and Senior Program Officer Richard Pain. “The Chair provides leadership in carrying out the scope of the committee, developing research needs statements in its field, developing and carrying out a committee strategic plan and more. In her three-year role as committee chair, Dr. Williams will lead the committee in developing a Triennial Strategic Plan and identifying research needs specific to motorcycles and mopeds, as well as issuing Research Needs Statements. These statements will be used to stimulate research that addresses issues relating to motorcycle safety and motorcycles as a transportation mode for use by practitioners, researchers and others.

“Being appointed Chair of the TRB Motorcycles and Mopeds Committee is a tremendous honor for me,” said Dr. Williams. “This new responsibility is an excellent opportunity for the MSF to serve millions of riders by championing representation from a broad cross-section of voices, and bringing them together and amplifying their voices in order to accomplish progress in motorcyclists’ safety and inclusion through actionable transportation research. I’ve been a member of this committee for seven years now, and I’m very excited about the prospect of continuing my association with them in a leadership role.”

Dr. Williams currently serves as the director of quality assurance and research for the MSF, and has since 2003, where she directed the MSF-NHTSA-sponsored Discovery Project. New Future for Motorcycle Shows Through the Launch of Power Sport Services

28 02 2012

TORONTO, ONTARIO – February 27, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Bob Ramsay, President of the Motorcycle & Moped Industry Council (MMIC) and the Canadian Off-Highway Vehicle Distributors Council (COHV) announced today the official launch of the newly incorporated for profit company, 8061246 Canada Inc., which will operate under the name of “Power Sport Services (PSS)”.

“Power Sport Services will focus on innovation and leading edge management of the motorcycle, ATV and power sport vehicle shows and the Open Road Powersport Insurance program,” stated Ramsay, who will also take on the role of President of PSS.

“Over the next few months, the company will be working on the strategic integration of its operations,” commented Mr. Ramsay. “With close to 200,000 people attending the MMIC and COHV Motorcycle & ATV shows each year, we are always looking for imaginative ways to provide more value for consumers and exhibitors of the shows. We believe that the launch of the new company is the appropriate next step in building on the future of shows and the expansion of the Open Road Powersport insurance program,” added Ramsay.

MMIC began producing shows in 1985 and since that time there have been many changes in the management of the shows and how they are delivered and operated. The launch of PSS at this critical time in our economy, will give the industry the flexibility it needs to deliver improvements in growth and profitability.

The year 2012-2013 will be an exciting time for the rebounding motorcycle and ATV industries. With the addition of Power Sport Services, this new venture is just one more step toward ensuring success in serving the riding community and industry even better.

Hero MotoCorp partners with Erik Buell

26 02 2012

  • TO GET TECHNOLOGY & DESIGN INPUTS FROM EBR
  • “TEAM HERO” TO DEBUT AT AMA PRO RACING SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THE US ON EBR 1190RS BIKES
  • TO BRING NEXT-GENERATION HIGH-END BIKES TO INDIA
  • TO FURTHER  AUGMENT R&D CAPABILITIES THROUGH MULTIPLE ALLIANCES

NEW DELHI – February 24, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – In a landmark development, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (HMCL), today announced forging a strategic partnership with Erik Buell Racing (EBR) of the US, encompassing multiple areas of collaboration.

As part of the partnership, HMCL will receive support in terms of cutting-edge technology and design to develop future models from EBR – the East Troy, Wisconsin-based firm, which specializes in designing and manufacturing powerful and high-speed motorcycles.

Announcing this here today, Mr. Pawan Munjal, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Hero MotoCorp, said “It gives me immense pleasure to welcome Erik Buell to the exciting world of Hero MotoCorp. This is in keeping with my objective of quickly scaling up our own in-house R&D capabilities to a global two-wheeler technology power-house by leveraging a network of strategic international alliances. Erik and his team have been working closely with our engineers and designers to develop our next-generation range of products with cutting-edge technology and first-of-its-kind features.

“The Indian two-wheeler industry is set to evolve, and it is only natural that as the market leader, we are driving this change. As a part of this plan, Erik is going to play an integral role in giving shape to some of my dream two-wheelers for the discerning youth of today. So my R&D team and Erik’s team together have made some definitive progress in this direction, and we will hopefully be putting a few scorchers on the roads soon.”

Mr. Erik F. Buell, Chairman & CTO of EBR, said “EBR is delighted to partner with a company as iconic as Hero MotoCorp. Both HMCL and EBR share the common commitment to manufacturing world-class two-wheelers with technology of the future. I have personally been deeply impressed with and inspired by Pawan’s vision. He has given us a challenging brief, and our highly-motivated team is working towards giving shape to that dream. We look forward to designing technology solutions which are in line with contemporary global standards and also futuristic in their appeal and utility.”

Through this alliance, Hero MotoCorp will also for the first time enter the exciting world of international motorcycle racing. The company will mark its foray into the racing arena by sponsoring two teams: Team Hero and AMSOIL Hero – a first by any Indian two-wheeler company at the AMA Pro Racing National Guard Superbikes Championship. Popular young racer Danny Eslick will represent “Team Hero” while another well-known racer Geoff May will represent team AMSOIL Hero – both riding on EBR 1190RS bikes.

Hero MotoCorp also showcased an EBR 1190RS bike at the press conference here today.

The first race is scheduled at the Daytona Speedway, at Daytona beach, Florida, USA between March 15th & 17th, this year.

Commenting on the racing debut, Mr. Munjal said, “This is also a key part of our alliance with EBR. Both Erik and I felt that we should carry forward our partnership into the race track. As a company, we have always supported and nurtured sports and sporting talent in India. It is indeed a pleasure to sponsor two EBR teams at the AMA Championships and we are delighted to be taking an Indian brand to a highly-competitive and highly-popular international motorcycle race arena. We look forward to superlative performances from both Danny and Geoff.”

Commenting on the tie-up, Mr. Buell said, “I deeply appreciate the support provided by Pawan and Hero MotoCorp to our two teams and this will only make Danny and Geoff perform better this season. As I kept meeting Pawan over the past several months, I realised his keen interest in moto-racing and the ‘Team Hero’ at AMA Championships is really a natural extension of our strategic collaboration. Top-class motorcycle racing is a very popular sport in the US, and the presence of the ‘Hero’ brand name is going to lend a lot of stature and excitement to all EBR fans out there.”

Hero MotoCorp is also developing the concept hybrid scooter called ‘Leap’, showcased at the recently-concluded Auto Expo, in collaboration with EBR.

EBR 1190RS is the flagship bike from EBR, and an exclusive engineering marvel, as the company is producing only 100 inaugural units of these, including a handful of the carbon edition package. The EBR 1190RS is taking the American motorcycle racing world by storm with its performance, styling and handling.

Before he became successful engineer, motorcycle designer and motorcycle manufacturer, Erik Buell was a motorcycle racer, and he has brought all his past experience from the race track to build the 1190RS.
