More than One-Third of Vehicle Owners Plan to Spend a Portion of Tax Refund on Their Car, Truck or Motorcycle, According to eBay Motors Survey

3 04 2012

Results indicate refund dollars most likely to be used for maintenance, repairs, or buying a vehicle

SAN JOSE, CA – April 3, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – As Tax Day fast approaches and refunds begin making their way into the bank accounts of many Americans, a new survey commissioned by eBay Motors found that more than one-third of vehicle owners anticipating tax refunds will spend a portion of their newly found cash on something related to a car, truck, or motorcycle, and the parts to repair and maintain them. The data is based on a recent survey conducted for eBay Motors by Harris Interactive, which polled more than 2,200 adults across the United States*.

According to the survey, 34 percent of current vehicle owners expecting tax refunds said they will spend part of their refund money to buy new or used cars or trucks, or spruce up their current vehicles. The categories in which the most people intend to put their tax refund dollars toward are:

1. Maintenance (49 percent)
2. Repairs (32 percent)
3. Buying a new or used vehicle (21 percent)
4. Tires (19 percent)
5. Cleaning or detailing (14 percent)
** Survey respondents were able to select multiple options

On average, respondents who expect to spend at least some of their refund on a vehicle or parts and accessories plan to put 31 percent of this year’s refund toward a vehicle-related expense. In addition, 42 percent of respondents say they plan to take automotive-related deductions when they file their taxes.

“The survey findings support the trends we have seen over the past few years in relation to sales and search increases on eBay Motors over the course of the Tax Season,” said Gregory Boutte, vice president of eBay Motors and Electronics in North America. “This increased activity speaks to the selection and value people have come to associate with eBay Motors. With more than 22 million parts available on the site at any given time, eBay Motors is the place where people looking to spend refund dollars can find just about anything they need for their vehicle, whether they’re shopping online or from their mobile devices.”

In 2010 and 2011, total searches for parts & accessories on eBay Motors during Tax Season (March and April) grew 17 percent and 23 percent, respectively, when compared to the average number of searches in other months of the year. As a result, sales of parts and accessories have also shown growth during the tax season in prior years. Tires and wheels have traditionally been the most popular tax-season accessories eBay shoppers purchase for their vehicles. Other popular items include grilles, motorcycle parts, and motorcycle accessories, including jackets, leathers and helmets.

In addition to parts, people appear to be putting their tax refunds toward their summer pastimes. In 2011, top non-traditional and motorsports vehicle sales on eBay Motors during tax season included Honda ATVs, Harley-Davidson Softail motorcycles, and Bass fishing boats.

Further, Americans appear to view tax refunds as opportunities to make purchases of vehicles associated with the joys of driving. The search terms on eBay Motors that have shown the greatest increase in frequency during the past two tax seasons are motorcycle, sports car and exotic-related vehicles, such as: Harley-Davidson, Corvette and Mustang.

People will also be shopping eBay Motors via their mobile devices this tax season. More than 173,000 parts and accessories and 3,400 vehicles are sold each week through eBay mobile applications. These purchases include high-ticket items – the most expensive motors related mobile purchase on eBay mobile applications in the U.S. in 2011 was a Lamborghini Gallardo, purchased for $249,999. People can visit Mobile.eBay.com to learn more, and download eBay applications, including the eBay Motors iPhone app.

People who plan to spend part of their refund on their vehicle this tax season can get even more for their tax refund dollars by visiting eBay’s Uncle Sam’s Garage, a site offering rebates and sales on wheels, rims, tires, turbo kits and more throughout the tax season. The garage is open now through April 17.

*The Harris Interactive online survey was conducted February 13 and 15, 2012, and was weighted to reflect the composition of the adult population and to adjust for the respondents’ propensity to be online.

Sparta Commercial’s Subsidiary, Specialty Reports, Inc., Launches CarVINreport.com

11 03 2011

NEW YORK, NY – March 10, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) - Sparta Commercial Services, Inc. (OTCQB: SRCO) announced today that its subsidiary, Specialty Reports, Inc. is launching its third product offering, CarVINreport.com, which will provide online auto history reports to consumers, car dealers, insurers, and others with an interest in knowing whether or not a particular vehicle has salvage or damage history, any record of theft, and additional important information.

While there are other online sources that offer similar information, CarVINreport.com will be less costly to consumers and dealers alike. To illustrate, the best known and most widely used provider of auto history reports charges car dealers a minimum monthly fee, in addition to the cost of each report, regardless of the number of reports purchased. CarVINreport.com will charge no minimum monthly fees and believes each report will cost less than the rate charged by other similar websites.

Specialty Reports, Inc.’s first product, Cyclechex.com, introduced in 2010, is an online source offering motorcycle history reports. Following Cyclechex, RVchecks.com was recently launched to provide recreational vehicle history reports for a large range of recreational type vehicles.

CarVINreport.com, like Cyclechex.com and RVchecks.com, requires a seventeen-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to be entered. Regardless of the country of origin, CarVINreport.com will produce virtually instantly a detailed auto history report of the car, van, or SUV, showing the recorded, salvage, rebuilt, flood or theft information, and other valuable data.

Speaking about the launch of CarVINreport.com, Anthony Havens, CEO of Sparta and Specialty Reports, Inc., said, “When we launched Specialty Reports, Inc. in June, 2010 with Cyclechex.com as our initial product offering, we knew that we were filling a genuine need, especially among consumers and powersports dealers, and the response has been outstanding. We also knew at that time that there were several other similar products we wanted to bring to market. After recently launching RVchecks.com, CarVINreport.com is our newest product offering. In the case of auto history reports, there is competition. But we’ve identified segments of the market outside the dealer relationships that the competition already has in place. And we’re confident that with our low pricing, our commitment to excellent service, and our ‘no hassle’ 100% money-back guarantee, CarVINreport.com will be highly successful.”

About Sparta Commercial Services, Inc.
Sparta Commercial Services, Inc. is a New York-based, nationwide financial services company offering financing and leasing products to consumers and retail powersports dealers. Sparta also serves municipal and governmental agencies nationwide with its Municipal Lease Program, which offers financing for essential equipment for the law enforcement and emergency response communities.

Our subsidiary, Specialty Reports, Inc., is in the business of offering online access to title histories and salvage information for various classes of previously owned assets. CarVINreport is its third product offering, RVchecks was the second, and Cyclechex Motorcycle History Report was Specialty Reports’ initial product release.

Iconic Hollywood Car Designer George Barris Selected Top Judge for SPEED’s Car Warriors

4 01 2011

Creative Mind behind Batmobile, Munster Koach Leads Panel Featuring Experts Jimmy Shine and ‘Mad Mike’ Martin

CHARLOTTE, NC _ January 04, 2010 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – With decades of experience under his belt, having designed some of Hollywood’s most recognizable custom cars ever, George Barris, ‘King of the Kustomizers,’ joins fellow automotive geniuses Jimmy Shine and “Mad Mike” Martin as judges for SPEED’s new all-star build show, Car Warriors, set to premiere Feb. 23 at 9 p.m. ET.

The one-hour weekly series, shot on a purpose-built set developed on the grounds of Ted Moser’s famed Picture Car Warehouse in Northridge, Ca., features a hand-picked, eight-person All-Star automotive team taking on shops from around the country in a pressure-packed, 72-hour restoration project, matching wits, skills and stamina on a wide variety of vehicles. Barris, Shine and Martin review the results and determine the winning team.

“The time frame will be their biggest challenge,” Barris said. “The teams need to be prepared to work around the clock with little break. It’s tiresome… they are going to have coffee coming out of their ears in order to allow them to stay awake, focused and driven to win.”

Barris designs dominated 1960’s television. The Munsters, The Beverly Hillbillies, My Mother the Car, Mannix, The Good Guys and hundreds of TV specials were just a few of the Barris projects that generated millions of images and toy models of America’s best-loved cars. However, the most famous TV car in the entire world (even to this day) is Barris’ 1960s Batmobile, created for one of the most-beloved series of our time – Batman, with Adam West and Burt Ward.

For a look at Barris’ famous creations, please visit www.barris.com.

Barris’ client list reads like a stroll on Hollywood Boulevard’s Walk of Fame, as he has done custom work for John Wayne, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, The Beach Boys, Sonny & Cher, Sean Connery, Peter Fonda, Jerry Lewis, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby.

Joining Barris on the Car Warriors judging panel are Shine, lead builder at the world famous So-Cal Speed Shop, and Martin, the wiring magician from Galpin Auto Sports and the popular television series Pimp My Ride.

Hosted by Marc Istook, Car Warriors headlines an aggressive 2011 SPEED prime time programming campaign. Beginning the week of Feb. 21, SPEED is launching six new titles following its highly rated coverage of NASCAR’s season-opening Speedweeks events from Daytona Beach. In addition to Car Warriors, the network is rolling out:

NPRA Criticizes EPA Decision to Increase Ethanol in Gasoline Could Damage Motorcycles

15 10 2010

WASHINGTON, DC – October 13, 2010 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Gregory M. Scott, executive vice president and general counsel of NPRA, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association, issued the following statement criticizing the decision announced today by the Environmental Protection Agency to approve the sale of gasoline containing 15 percent ethanol (E15) for late-model cars, up from the current limit of 10 percent ethanol (E10):

“The Environmental Protection Agency today abdicated its responsibility to safeguard our nation’s public health and environment and became the Ethanol Promotion Agency. EPA’s unwise and premature decision to allow the sale of gasoline with higher levels of ethanol may be good politics in Corn Belt states on the eve of the midterm elections, but it is bad news for every American who owns a car, truck, motorcycle, boat, snowmobile, lawnmower, chainsaw or anything else powered by gasoline.

“The ethanol industry has won a victory today by convincing the federal agency charged with protecting our nation’s public health and environment to disregard public safety and environmental issues and instead base a major policy decision on inadequate engine test data that has not been made public or reviewed independently. The American people are the losers today because EPA has violated President Obama’s 2009 commitment to them to put science ahead of politics.

“EPA is asking the American people to pump first and ask questions later, and to become guinea pigs in a giant science experiment that involves their vehicles, their gasoline-powered equipment, and their safety. Instead of rushing to judgment to announce this decision today, EPA should have required the completion of thorough and objective scientific testing of increased ethanol in gasoline to protect millions of Americans.

“Our nation’s domestic petroleum refiners are committed to manufacturing safe, reliable and clean gasoline, and we will continue to oppose any EPA actions that could endanger the safety of the American families, farmers and truckers we serve every day. We take the confidence Americans place in our products – demonstrated by the millions of times each day that consumers purchase gasoline and diesel fuel – very seriously, and we will consider every option available to reverse EPA’s ill-considered and politically motivated decision.”

NPRA members include more than 450 companies, including virtually all U.S. refiners and petrochemical manufacturers. Our members supply consumers with a wide variety of products and services used daily in their homes and businesses. These products include gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, lubricants and the chemicals that serve as “building blocks” in making everything from plastics to clothing to medicine to computers.

In a  YouTube posting, the vehicle pulls off what BMW calls “the oldest trick in the world”: the bike snatches a tablecloth out from under a full banquet setting, without upsetting anything.

That simple idea, along with a soundtrack mixing rock, classical music, and a roaring engine, has gotten BMW more than 1.4 million clicks and an online advertising award earlier this month, the company said. (The incredible video is loud, but otherwise suitable for work.)

In the Venn diagram of the BMW brand image, there’s not much overlap between motorcycles and cars. In fact, for most people there’s no overlap, because they’re not even aware the company makes motorcycles. That’s frustrating to BMW, because its automotive employees are proud of the bikes, too, and many of its highest-ranking auto executives are also motorcycle enthusiasts

Both kinds of BMW have a lot in common: high-performance technology, a reputation for being among the best-in-class; and a high price tag. In relative terms, BMW motorcycles may be even more expensive, exclusive and high-performance than the automobiles. For instance, the BMW S 1000 RR goes from zero to 62 mph in only 2.9 seconds, much faster than any ordinary car. This is what allows it to pull off the tablecloth trick.

Maybe this video, which doesn’t mention cars, will get BMW motorcycles the attention the company craves.
