2014_CRF250R_2000x1275_Red_634E2FCRF250R
Like the new-generation CRF450R that debuted last year, this 2014 CRF250R launches 250-class motocross design up to the next level. Featuring an all-new engine and rolling chassis, this newest CRF250R has been designed specifically for Generation Scrub, with all the technological advancements that Honda engineering can bring to bear. The all-new frame is designed to lower the bike’s center of gravity and it also incorporates a dual-muffler exhaust system to further sharpen handling by centralizing the bike’s mass. And that makes a decidedly flickable machine even more nimble than ever before. A thoroughly revised engine adds a big load of midrange punch, thanks to a new cylinder head, new piston, higher compression ratio, plus a new dual-timing fuel injection system, and a new transmission that adds toughness and durability to the overall package. Put it all together, and the 2014 CRF250R adds up to be the hottest 250 MX bike on the track, one that will continue Honda’s championship-winning records in the class. Color: Red; Price: TBD; Availability: September

2014_CRF450R_2000x1275_Red_634E2FCRF450R
Introduced in 2013, the new-generation CRF450R has already proven itself a winner at the highest levels of racing. And that’s no surprise. This awe-inspiring racing machine features a rolling chassis fully focused on meeting the needs of today’s scrub generation of riders via an aluminum frame along with an innovative suspension package, plus a strategically engineered compact dual-muffler exhaust system that tucks in closely to the center of mass. Designed from the ground up as a total package that would be eminently flickable, responsive and lightweight, every element in the CRF450R chassis has been focused on attaining a low center of gravity along with class-leading mass centralization. For 2014, new intake and exhaust ports, new Dual-Timing fuel injection and redesigned muffler internals boost torque output and increase throttle response. Also, in the suspension department, revised internals in the KYB PSF® (Pneumatic Spring Fork) yield improved damping response for improved bump performance. As before, the advantages to the KYB PSF include significantly lighter weight since it uses air in place of traditional steel springs, and the design also allows incorporation of a larger 32mm cartridge damper piston for superb fork action. Color: Red; Price: TBD; Availability: August

Team Honda Muscle Milk Scores Top-Five Finishes in Salt Lake City

1 05 2013

TORRANCE, CA – May 1,2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – The penultimate round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship race, made its way to Salt Lake City, UT, this past Saturday, and 43,149 fans filled Rice-Eccles Stadium to witness the action. Leading the charge for the Honda Red Riders was the Team Honda Muscle Milk duo of Trey Canard and Justin Barcia, both finishing 4-5 respectively. Muscle Milk-supported GEICO Honda rider Eli Tomac had a trying night in the main event, but was able to close his deficit to a mere five points in the championship heading into the final round.

450 Race
With a solid second-place finish in his heat race, Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Trey Canard headed into the main event with a good gate pick. Jumping off the line to a fifth-place start, Canard was able to make his way into fourth a few laps in and continued to lay down consistent times throughout the entire 20-lap race. “It was a really good day for me, especially after last weekend,” stated Canard. “I think I need some more days like this. The main was especially good for me through the whoops, it’s the best I have ever ridden the whoops and they were really tough. I was really happy, we were able to progress the bike throughout the day. It was a really demanding track physically, especially with the altitude. I am happy to come away with a fourth and to be healthy heading into the final round.”

After scoring his second win of the season last weekend, Justin Barcia was hoping to carry that same momentum into Utah. He posted the fifth-quickest qualifying time in practice and was able to grab a third in his heat race. Despite getting a mid-pack start in the main event, Barcia made his way into sixth by the end of the first lap. A few laps later, he made the pass into fifth, which is where he settled for the night.

Honda-Justin-Barcia-Salt-Lake-City-2013-SX-

“I’m a little disappointed with my finish, especially after my win last weekend,” explained Barcia. “The track was super tough, it was technical and tight, and I rode really tight. The whoops were gnarly, but the bike was working awesome. We made some good changes to the bike throughout the day, which really helped me. I’m ready to head into Vegas and hopefully grab another win, I have had some good luck there in the past.”

250 Race
This weekend also marked the eighth round of the Western Regional 250 Supercross and Muscle Milk-supported GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac caught a huge break in the championship chase, after the currents points leader was unable to qualify for the main event. Tomac had the opportunity to walk away with the points lead, and it looked like he was going to capitalize on it after grabbing a second-place start behind his teammate Zach Osborne. Unfortunately, Tomac struggled in the challenging whoops the entire 20-lap main event, causing him to lose multiple positions. He was able to recover and finish in sixth overall, putting him a mere five points behind the points leader heading into the final round in Las Vegas.

“I started the race in second, but just blew the race in the whoops,” said Tomac, who leads the category with four victories this year. “It was a section that just got me almost every time around. There were a couple of passes where I got through them OK, but there were others where I got wild and out of control.”

In the main event, Osborne earned the holeshot and was still fighting for a podium position when a crash in the whoops caused him to fall outside the top 10. He remounted his GEICO Honda CRF250R and ultimately finished in 12th place overall.

“I had a great day, actually,” Osborne said. “Up until I fell in the main everything was going really well. That kind of turned the whole deal. I just need to soldier-up and fight for a great finish in Vegas. I have nothing to lose and I plan to just go for it and try to get up on the podium.”

Suffering from a season-ending crash in Salt Lake City last year, Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda’s Cole Seely was able to put his nervousness aside and ride a noteworthy race to finish in second place overall on the podium.

The Focus: Suspension Settings
Suspension settings are key to the success of a rider and can be changed based on the track conditions and rider preference. Salt Lake City was a very tight and technical track, which required a few small changes to the Team Honda Muscle Milk CRF450Rs.

“The track today was very difficult, the whoop section specifically,” said Shane Drew, Honda’s chassis/suspension engineer. “The improvements that we made today was that we just increased the wheelbase of our bike to give more leverage on the rear shock, ultimately making it more stable in the whoops. We made a few other small adjustments to the high-speed settings of the shock, but nothing major. Both Trey and Justin ride very similar setups and each rider received the same changes.”

Hahn Podiums and Extends his Points Lead

19 03 2013

TORRANCE, CA – March 18, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – This past Saturday Honda Red Riders took on round 11 of the Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN. Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Barcia rode a solid race for a fifth-place overall, but teammate Trey Canard went down in the main event and was unable to finish the race. Muscle Milk-supported GEICO Honda’s Wil Hahn finished on the podium for the fifth time this season with a third place, extending his points lead going into Toronto.

51_S_13_15_10971

450 Race
Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Barcia rode consistently the majority of the day, qualifying with the fourth quickest time and finishing fifth in his heat race. In the main event, Barcia grabbed a decent start and rode well the rest of the 20-lap main event to finish fifth overall. “I’m not completely happy with how tonight went,” stated Barcia. “The track was pretty tough and it was really hard to pass on, which made it difficult. I have some things I need to work on heading into Toronto so hopefully things will end better.”

Trey Canard started the day out strong aboard his Honda CRF450 with a second-place qualifying time, giving him a good gate pick heading into the night. Despite a less-than-desirable start in his heat, Canard put his head down and was able to put together a solid ride to finish second overall. In the main event, Canard jumped to a mid-pack start but went down a few laps in and was unable to finish the race.

Muscle Milk-sponsored GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac finished off his four-race 450 stint with a ninth-place finish. A first turn pile-up hindered Tomac in the start but he was able ride strong the rest of the race to make his way back into the top 10. He will return to training for the Western 250 Regional championship that will resume at the Seattle Supercross.

“It was a big mess in the first turn of the main and I had to get around all that,” explained Tomac. “I still rode pretty well and made my way up to sixth until a little mistake cost me a few spots. I’m excited to head back into the 250 class because I feel like I am going to be really strong confidence-wise. I have learned a lot these last few races on the 450 and that is going to be very helpful when I move up to 450s full-time.”

TwoTwo Motorsports’ Chad Reed put together a consistent ride aboard his factory-backed Honda CRF450R to finish sixth overall. Reed moved up to fourth overall in the championship points standing heading into the next round.

250 Race
Wil Hahn extended his points lead in the 250 Supercross East Class with a hard-fought third-place finish aboard his Muscle Milk-backed GEICO Honda CRF250R. In the main event, Hahn grabbed a mid-pack start but was pushed to the back of the field after a tuff block was dragged into the middle of the track by another rider. He spent the remainder of the 15-lap race patiently working his way through the field, ultimately finishing in third for his fifth podium appearance of the season.

“Tonight was a really tough race,” stated Hahn. “I honestly am disappointed in the way I rode because I was tight and cautious all the way around. Looking at the positive, I’m still coming out of here with the points lead and the red plate is staying on my GEICO Honda so I am happy with that. I need to refocus this week in Toronto so I can come out with another win.”

Suffering from the after affects of the stomach flu, teammate Zach Bell had a difficult night transferring to the main via the Last Chance Qualifier. Bell grabbed a decent start in the main event but a bobble halfway through sent him towards the back, ultimately finishing in 13th. “I couldn’t really push the way I wanted to tonight because I felt like I was going to be sick,” said Bell. “My energy wasn’t there so I am okay with how I finished based off how I was feeing.”

Barcia Finishes on the Podium at the Daytona Supercross by Honda

12 03 2013

TORRANCE, CA – March 12, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Round 10 of the 2013 Supercross season took place Saturday at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. This year’s Daytona Supercross by Honda marked Honda’s 22nd year sponsoring this unique and historic event. Race fans filled the stands to witness an impressive showing by the Honda Red Riders, with four out of the top six aboard Honda CRF450Rs. Team Honda Muscle Milk rookie Justin Barcia took the podium with a third-place finish in his first Daytona 450 Supercross-class appearance. Muscle Milk-supported GEICO Honda’s Wil Hahn finished a solid second place at round four of the Eastern Regional 250 Supercross class.

450 Race
Despite the brutal track conditions, it was a noteworthy night for Barcia who nabbed his fourth podium appearance of the season with a third. Following a strong heat race win, Barcia spent the first half of the main event in second place. Succumbing to the pressure of another rider, Barcia settled into third and focused on staying consistent the remainder of the race.

“I am happy with how tonight went and love being up on the podium,” stated Barcia. “I want to win but both Ryans were riding really good tonight, so I’m happy just to be up here with them. The track was brutal, and felt like an outdoor race for me. I rode the best I could and had a lot of fun.”

Sitting in fifth on the opening lap, Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Trey Canard did his best to log consistent laps throughout the 20-lap main event. A few small mistakes moved him into sixth, which is where he finished. “It has been a rough couple of weeks for me,” stated Canard. “I gave all my effort but know that I have some things I need to work on. I’m happy to be healthy and moving onto the next race.”

Muscle Milk-sponsored GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac scored his career-best finish aboard his Honda CRF450R with a fourth-place overall. Despite a mid-pack start Tomac moved steadily through the field, making his way from ninth on the opening lap to fourth by the halfway mark, which is where he settled.

“I am really pleased with how tonight went,” stated Tomac. “I finally rode like I know how to and felt really comfortable on the bike. I didn’t get the best start but was able to relax and make the passes I needed to. I’m learning a lot this time on the 450 and definitely feel like I know what it takes to ride at this level.”

TwoTwo Motorsports’ Chad Reed put together an impressive performance in his heat after a first-lap crash left him at the back of the pack. He charged through the field and managed to go from last up to fifth, transferring him into the main. In the main, Reed grabbed a good start and quickly worked his way into the top five before a mistake at the halfway mark dropped him two positions. He was able to recover and finish fifth.

250 Race
Muscle Milk-backed GEICO Honda rider Wil Hahn continued to impress aboard his CRF250R, nailing down second and extending his points lead to five heading into the next round. Hahn started the night out strong, grabbing the holeshot in his heat and leading wire-to-wire. In the main event he came through the first turn in fourth before quickly making his way into third. With six laps remaining Hahn made his move on second, which is where he finished.

“I am satisfied with a second this weekend,” Hahn said. “The heat win really helped my confidence heading into the night, so that was cool. I got a fourth-place start in the main and just tried to stay consistent and capitalize on any mistakes that were made in front of me. I wanted to win but by the time I got into second Marvin (Musquin) was gone.”

Following a second-place finish in his heat, teammate Zach Bell went down twice in the main event to place 18th overall. “I had a really good heat race finishing second behind Wil (Hahn) so I wanted to work off that, but the main didn’t go as well as I had hoped,” said Bell. “I got a great start but came together with Dean (Wilson) and fell down. I made my way back up to eighth but towards the end fell again and finished 18th.”

Akira Narita to Compete in AMA Supercross

4 01 2013

TORRANCE, CA – January 4, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Akira Narita will be heading to the U.S. to compete in the first few rounds of the 2013 Supercross series starting with the season opener at Anaheim stadium. Narita, 33, is the current All Japan National Motocross Series champion, but he’s no stranger to that title: he’s won a remarkable eight All Japan National Motocross Series championships starting in 2002 when he won his first title in the 250 class.

Narita will be competing aboard a Honda CRF450R for Team HRC (Honda Racing Corporation). Narita sees his participation is the U.S. Supercross series as a way to boost his riding to the next level. “Supercross racing in the U.S. is the highest level of the sport, and the best possible training for me prior to the All Japan championship,” said Narita. “I appreciate the support of HRC and American Honda in my racing here.”

While this HRC effort is separate from American Honda, you can find Narita’s support rig parked with the Team Honda Muscle Milk trucks so the teams can work together to assist Narita in his quest to compete in the most competitive Supercross field in the world. Look for this multi-time Japanese champion on the starting line at Anaheim 1 on January 5, 2013.

Team Honda Muscle Milk ready for 2013

4 01 2013

TORRANCE, CA – January 3, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – With round one of the 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross only days away, Team Honda Muscle Milk is ready to take on the competition.

Honda has been at the forefront of American Motocross and Supercross action since the beginning, winning its first AMA 250 National Championship in 1973 and amassing an unparalleled race record over the past 40 years, and that winning tradition looks to roll into 2013 as well with champions Trey Canard and Justin Barcia ready for action.

For 2013, Canard and Barcia will compete on Honda’s all-new 2013 CRF450R in the AMA Supercross and AMA Motocross series. The 2013 CRF450R made its debut during the off-season at the Monster Energy Cup, where Barcia won the event overall. Since then, the team has continued to develop the CRF450R in the hands of Canard, Barcia and Jeremy McGrath, who also provided valuable input during hundreds of testing laps during the off season.

After an exciting 2012 season, Muscle Milk is eager to continue their partnership with American Honda in 2013. “We’re extremely proud to be partnered again with Honda Racing. They have a great tradition in racing, a strong commitment to winning, and we both share a common goal of making the highest quality products for consumers,” says CytoSport’s SVP of marketing, John Peirano. “The 2012 season was a great opening year for us as the title sponsor of Team Honda Muscle Milk. We are even more excited about the 2013 season with riders Trey Canard and Justin Barcia leading the way. Both riders embody what a Muscle Milk athlete represents with their determination and commitment to be the best.”

Team Honda Muscle Milk also had some changes during the off season.  First, Mike Tomlin moved from GEICO Honda to the Team Honda Muscle Milk factory team to continue wrenching for Barcia. Three-time WMX champion, Ashley Fiolek, announced she would retire from racing the WMX series. During her four years as a Team Honda factory racer, Ashley consistently demonstrated a professional approach to racing and reflected a racing spirit that is at the core of the Honda brand.

Two more changes to the team effort this year include the addition of Replay cameras and Honda Racing HPD as team sponsors. They join returning sponsors Troy Lee Designs, Pro Honda Oils and Chemicals, Dunlop, Showa, Renthal, D.I.D, VP Racing Fuels, Twin Air, Yoshimura, Hinson Racing and Throttle Jockey.

About the Riders

Canard returns to the team in 2013 for the third year in a row. Since his professional debut in 2007, Canard has become a fan favorite with his humble personality, fierce competitive attitude and undeniable talent. In the 2010 AMA Motocross Lites series, young Canard rode to his first-ever outdoor championship, adding to his long list of accomplishments, which includes a 2008 Supercross Lites East title. After his devastating accident last February that led to a long recovery, Canard believes 2013 is all about new beginnings, and he is confident in his ability to win races.

Barcia enters the 2013 season as the newcomer to the premier class. However, he is nothing new to winning—or to Honda. After making an impressive professional debut in 2009, the young phenomenon has continued to top the podium in both Supercross and Motocross races around the country. In the 2011 AMA Supercross season, Barcia appeared on the podium at every round of the nine-race series and was able to clinch his first Lites East Championship title on his GEICO Honda CRF250R. During the 2011 outdoor Motocross season, he was given the opportunity to ride the last four rounds aboard a factory CRF450R. He showed that he could run up front with the fastest riders in the series by taking third place overall at both Unadilla and Pala, and grabbing a moto win at Southwick. Barcia’s 2012 season proved just as successful as he earned five race wins, maintaining his points lead throughout the entire Supercross Lites season and wrapping up his second Lites East Championship on the GEICO Honda team with one round remaining. He ended his 2012 season by winning the Monster Energy Cup, beating the best 450 racers in the country. His agenda for 2013 is simple: Get out front, get on the podium and win races.

Team Honda Muscle Milk would like to invite fans to stop by for an autograph in the Supercross paddock and to keep an eye on Barcia and Canard on the racetrack. They’ll be the easy to spot: Just look at the front of the pack.

Yoshimura R&D of America Announces All-New RS-9 for the 2013 Honda CRF450R

3 10 2012

CHINO, CA – October 3, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) -Yoshimura R&D of America, the leader in performance, has been synonymous with superior craftsmanship, precision fitment, and impeccable quality for years. Yoshimura R&D is excited to announce a complete performance solution for the new 2013 Honda CRF450R with the introduction of the all-new Yoshimura RS-9 system.

The dual-muffler configuration on the redesigned 2013 CRF450R gave Yoshimura the opportunity to create an entirely new muffler, specifically built for the CRF450R. Yoshimura worked in confidence with consultation from top AMA Pro riders Jeremy McGrath, Justin Barcia, Trey Canard, Eli Tomac, and Justin Brayton, to achieve maximum performance, mass centralization, and optimize rider-usability. Yoshimura R&D was able to achieve all this, while keeping sound levels in check with AMA Regulation.

Beginning with the head-pipe, a 3-stage tapered design results in better power, better throttle response, and usable power delivery. It is also spring mounted for increased durability. The header flows seamlessly into a re-configured tailpipe, where the exhausts gases are separated to each muffler. Yoshimura’s vertical divider splits the exhaust gases more evenly, for smoother flow, which improves mid-top power and throttle response. Divided exhausts gases then reach our new, dual RS-9 mufflers, hence RS-9D. RS-9′s parallelogram-shaped muffler body increases muffler volume over the stock system, resulting in better throttle response and improved noise cancellation. The dual setup enabled us to position the mufflers closer to the bike’s center of gravity (mass centralization) resulting in better handling for the rider. An additional benefit of the mass centralization process was decreasing potential for muffler damage in the event of crash.

The Yoshimura RS-9D not only makes more power and torque possible, but also does it more quietly than single systems. The uniquely sculpted carbon fiber end-caps feature a tunable insert system, able to fine-tune power delivery and decibel levels to rider specifications. The Yoshimura RS-9D systems are AMA 2-Meter Max and Amateur 94dB sound compliant right out of the box.

RS-9D DUAL MUFFLER

  • All new design specific for 2013 CRF450R
  • Parallelogram shaped muffler body increases muffler volume over stock providing better throttle response and better noise cancellation.
  • The dual system is positioned further forward, closer to center of gravity, which improves handling and allows less chance for damage from crashing.
  • The dual system achieves more power and torque, and quieter than previous single systems.
  • The tunable insert system provides the ability to adjust power delivery and noise. 94dB and AMA 2-Meter Max Compliant
  • Carbon fiber end-cap.
