FARO Celebrates 30 Years with a Custom Chopper from Paul Jr. Designs

18 01 2011

LAKE MARY, FL – January 17, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – FARO Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: FARO), the world’s leading provider of portable measurement and imaging solutions, celebrates 30 years in 2011.  With three decades of innovation and helping its customers’ products and processes be the best in the world, FARO celebrated this milestone by having one of their valued customers, Paul Jr. Designs, build a custom FARO-themed chopper. FARO’s motorcycle build will be featured on Discovery Channel’s popular television series American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior premiering January 17, 2011 at 9pm EST.

Like with most custom choppers created by Paul Jr. Designs, the FaroArm was used during the fabrication of this 30th anniversary bike.  Creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces quickly and efficiently is important for PJD.  Some elements like the gas tank, seat pan and primary cover display the true craftsmanship that goes into every design. All of these have intricate shapes and contours that are difficult to capture or re-create by hand. With the FaroArm they are able to digitize the exact shape and placement of components virtually eliminating the need to trace and create cardboard templates. The data collected with the arm can be immediately imported to the CNC machine or water-jet cutter to produce accurate pieces that will fit perfectly from the start, thus reducing scrap, saving time and boosting overall efficiency.

Watch the fabrication and unveiling of the new FARO custom chopper and get a sneak preview of the next generation FaroArm that will be showcased during this two part episode of American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior, premiering January 17 and January 24, 2011.  American Chopper: The Series can be seen in over 150 countries through the Discovery Communication Network. Check your local listings for dates and times.

Who Says There Is Nothing Worth Watching On TV?

24 06 2010

Tune In To See Scorpion Streetbike Freestyler Josh Borne

LAKE FOREST, CA – June 24, 2010 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Pro Streetbike Freestyler, Josh Borne gets a guest shot on the Discovery Channel’s new Ultimate Car Build Off TV program. Borne took a break from competing in 2010 XDL Championship to participate in the filming of the show, which is set to air on July 19th at 9 p.m.

In addition to showing off his skills on a bike, Josh had the opportunity to show off his engineering background from Kettering University and his experience with General Motors to help two Detroit-based shops build the ultimate wheelie machine. Monkeywrench Racing and Voodoo Choppers were tasked with merging two motorcycles into a 4-wheeled vehicle. The goal: ride the longest wheelie down Michigan’s historic Grosse Ile Municipal Airport runway with the winner taking home $100,000.

We won’t spoil the show by telling who won, but we can say that Josh had a blast teaching hosts Andrew Compri-Pichard (X-Games Pro Rally racer in real life) and top hot rod fabricator Lou Santiago the basics of freestyle. Even world renown automotive designer Chip Foose joined in on the fun and was impressed with Borne’s ability on a bike and with a wrench.

“We couldn’t have anything happen to all these stars, so Scorpion Sports was happy to step up with protective gear for Josh, ACP, Lou and the contestants from Monkeywrench racing and Voodoo Choppers,” says Scorpion’s marketing/media relations guru, Suzie Kirby. “I can’t wait to see how great the gear looks on TV.”

She notes that like Josh, a number of the nation’s top streetbike freestyle riders rely on EXOskeletal protection and helmets from Scorpion. The Scorpion pros include top XDL contender Teach McNeil on the factory BMW (www.teachtrix.com), “Sick” Rick Hart (www.myspace.com/sickrickstunts) Aaron Twite (www.aarontwite.com) and Eric “E-Brake” Pettit (www.e-brakestunts.com).

For more details of Josh Borne’s freestyle program, educational outreach or his impending TV appearance, visit Borne Freestyle Entertainment at www.bornefreetyle.com or check your local listings for Discovery Channel programming.
