In 2012, four new models were added to the list of machines offering Dual Clutch Transmission: the Integra*, NC700X, NC700S and Crosstourer.

  • The popular NC700X has seen its monthly percentage of Dual Clutch Transmission customers grow steadily from 10% to 44% from its launch in April 2012 to February 2013.
  • Sales of the Dual Clutch Transmission version of the Crosstourer adventure sports machine have also grown, from 25% to 70% of monthly sales in the year from February 2012 to February 2013.

Today Honda confirms that, the CTX700 and CTX700N will join the ranks of Dual Clutch Transmission machines in the autumn of 2013. Both models will be equipped with the technology as standard, and will be among a number of new models to be shown at the EICMA show in Milan in November.

Unveiled in February at the International Motorcycle Show in Chicago, the semi-faired CTX700 and naked CTX700N have been developed under the concept of “Comfort Touring Experience”.

The machines’ 35kW 670cc inline parallel twin engine offers outstanding low to mid-range torque and fuel economy; its compact size and 62 degree forward tilt provides a low centre of gravity, which, coupled with the feet-forward riding position and 720mm seat height, create a unique combination of comfort and manoeuvrability. Add design cues from the unique GL1800 Gold Wing, and the results are two approachable A2 licence-friendly, affordable machines with a presence entirely of their own.

Marketplace Events and Italian Trade Commission Join Forces for American International Motorcycle Expo

13 11 2012

Agreement Signed at Opening Day of EICMA 2013 in Milan

IRVINE, CA – November 13, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – The American International Motorcycle Expo (AIMExpo) added significantly to its strong foundation with today’s major announcement of the signing of a formal agreement between Marketplace Events (MPE) and the Italian Trade Commission (ITC) at the opening day of Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori (EICMA) 2013 in Milan, Italy.

The new partnership positions the ITC as MPE’s sales agent to Italian powersports companies who market to America and seek to establish and strengthen essential connections by exhibiting at next October’s AIMExpo in Orlando, Fla. In turn, AIMExpo will showcase Italian products to the North American marketplace by working with ITC’s Los Angeles office to create an “Italian Pavilion” at the inaugural show.

“It makes every sense to announce our collaboration today at EICMA, as EICMA has very much been the inspiration for AIMExpo from day one,” said Larry Little, Vice President & General Manager of MPE’s Motorcycle Group. “The agreement with ITC to showcase AIMExpo to Italian industry is as exciting as the creation of the Italian Pavilion at AIMExpo to showcase Italian product to U.S. retailers and consumers. The American consumer has a clear appreciation for Italian design, evident in the style and beauty of Italian motorcycles and related gear which will be on full display at the Italian Pavilion.”

The ITC is the government agency that promotes the internationalization of Italian companies all over the world with offices in 80 countries and more that 1,000 events per year. Riccardo Maria Monti, Chairman of the Italian Trade Commission, commented on the partnership.

“ITC is becoming a brand new Government agency that helps create the conditions to develop and gain strong roots for Italian businesses across the globe. The key to doing so is in finding the proper platform where Italian companies can present themselves in the best possible conditions to the greatest concentration of potential customers, and AIMExpo in October 2013 is the perfect scenario for the Italian motorcycle industry. The agreement that has been signed with Marketplace Events, combined with the Italian Pavilion which is being organized by ITC in Los Angeles, will enable Italian companies to showcase their products in the most favorable sense.”

Pierpaolo Celeste, Italian Trade Commissioner, Milan office, added, “the policy of the ITC with this agreement is to lay the foundation of the presence of Italian companies in the most important market overseas for size and number of customers. It is the first ever agreement of its type done for the U.S. market.”

Carlo Angelo Bocchi, Italian Trade Commissioner, Los Angeles Office, helped facilitate the endeavor with Marketplace Events.

“In the aftermath of 2008, many Italian companies suffered with the decrease of the U.S. market, with 2009 reaching a modern-era historical minimum of exported Italian motorcycles and parts to America,” explained Bocchi. “Signs of recovery came slowly in 2010, and improved again in 2011. Motorcycle industry exports for 2012 are on track to be more than triple that of the low point, and moving forward, AIMExpo is perfectly timed to boost Italian motorcycle trade in the U.S. to even greater gains.”

EICMA, produced by Associazione Nazionale Ciclo Moto Accessori (ANCMA), is the premier motorcycle trade show in Europe and the only not-for-profit event of its kind in the world. For 2012, EICMA’s 70th event is expected to register the largest show in its history, dating back to 1914.

The EICMA template has driven the development of AIMExpo from its beginning stages, inspiring the vision that will lead to the launch of the first combined consumer, trade, and media powersports event in North America. It will bring the entire industry together in a celebration of motorcycling, the motorcycling and powersports industry, and the motorcycling lifestyle.

“America is a very important market for Italian companies, and we are looking forward to the fresh approach in North America of AIMExpo,” said Pier Francesco Caliari, Managing Director of EICMA and ANCMA. “It is important for the growth of Italian industry to have a show in the USA that mirrors EICMA, and we look forward to a strong collaboration with AIMExpo as they create the ideal North American platform for the promotion of all things two-wheels.”

Mike Webster, President of MPE’s Trade Show Division commented, “many years ago, I worked with the ITC to create the first Italian Pavilion in America. It is rewarding to reunite with the ITC, especially now with Carlo Bocchi of the Los Angeles office, to work together to bring this tremendous exhibition of Italian artisanship back to America. We’re thrilled that the ITC and EICMA/ANCMA both view AIMExpo as their show of choice in North American for Italian industry. I am especially delighted to welcome the Italian Pavilion back to America!”

AIMExpo will be held on October 16-20, 2013 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. In addition to visiting the newly re-launched AIMExpoUSA.com web site, keep up to date on the continued progress by visiting AIMExpo’s social media pages. “Like” the American International Motorcycle Expo on Facebook by visiting the AIMExpo page, and “Follow” on Twitter: @AIMExpo.

MILAN, ITALY – November 12, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Following the tradition of presenting its new motorcycles at the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan, Ducati has now officially unveiled its complete 2013 range. The new and innovative models are a product of the genius and creativity of Ducati’s talented designers and engineers, and are set to capture thepublic’s attention at the EICMA 2012 event. The 77th edition of Milan’s International Motorcycle Show will pack the impressive Rho International Fair complex from 15-18 November.

The presentation of the 2013 Ducati range took place at the Milano-Rho Fair Auditorium and provided an opportunity for the CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, Gabriele Del Torchio, to address the capacity audience. During thePress Conference, he explained the international market situation and the business success achieved by the Bologna-based manufacturer during 2012. Despite the global market situation and economic difficulties, Ducati’s growth trend has continued, both in terms of market share and of production and sale volumes. This confirms the company’s secure position, underlined with the recent acquisition by the Audi Group, which subsequently further enhanced Ducati’s structure and organisation, enabling it to face the future with a positive and confident attitude.

“Since 2007, we have only seen “red” on the bodywork of our bikes,” said Gabriele Del Torchio, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding during the press conference. “Ducati’s record turnover of 2011, looks set to increase 20% further by the close of 2012 with over 44,000 motorcycles registered. Our market share has also grown from 2.4% in 2006 to 5.2% in 2012, an equivalent of over 10% share in what we call the ‘Ducati Relevant Market’. Ducati has become even more global today, with approximately 9 motorcycles out of every 10 produced in our Borgo Panigale factory in Bologna destined for foreign markets. The USA is currently our top market, achieving a consistent two-figure growth, while other geographical areas, such as the Far East and Latin America where we are investing major resources and reaping promising results, are still yet to reach their full potential.

“With the arrival of the new shareholders, Ducati is in stronger hands than ever, and being part of the Audi Group will definitely contribute to Ducati’s growth and expansion. This acquisition acknowledges the value of everyone who works in our company, the value of the Ducati brand, and of its past achievements.

“EICMA is the best occasion to show our new models and I am particularly proud to present the new Hypermotard in addition to the rest our 2013 range. The excellence of our ‘emotional appeal’, increasingly important in today’s competitive environment, is cleverly combined with our unmistakeable all-Italian style, and the advanced technology used in our new 2013 range confirms that Ducati is, and will continue to be, a product-oriented company with development and innovation representing the milestones of our growth strategy.”

The Ducati Press Conference for the launch of the 2013 model range also provided an ideal occasion to present Ducati’s official racing program for 2013. Four Ducati riders have already been confirmed in MotoGP with Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso for the factory Ducati Team and Ben Spiesand Andrea Iannone for the satellite team. For World Superbike, the new Team Ducati Alstare was officially announced and, coordinated by the Belgian organisation managed by Francis Batta, will field Carlos Checa and Ayrton Badovini aboard the new 1199 Panigale.

The brand ambassador and guest of honour at the Conference was Daniele Molmenti, Gold Medallist at the London Olympic Games in the K1 Canoe Slalomand a passionate “Ducatista”. While on the podium in London earlier this year, the Olympic medal winner explained that he competes in ared canoe to underline his love for Ducati motorcycles. Molmenti greatly appreciated the chance to preview the 2013 models and was particularly interested in the new Superbike 1199 Panigale R, a masterpiece of applied technology and pure performance.

Claudio Domenicali, General Manager of Ducati Motor Holding, then took to the stage to explain the details and features of the 2013 Ducati models. Hefocused in particular on the long-awaited new generation Hypermotard family, and underlined the major, strategic role of the 1199 Panigale supersport model and its world debut with the prestigious R version.

“Here at EICMA 2012 we present one totally new model and a series of significantly updated models in line with our strategic plan,” Said General Manager, Claudio Domenicali at the Press Conference. “The Hypermotard is completely new. Technologically enhanced and presented in standard and SP versions, it has a brand new 4-valve per cylinder, liquid-cooled, Testastretta 11° engine, equipped also with our new secondary air system. The new motorcycle maintains the spirit of the original Ducati Hypermotard, but widens its accessibility with a larger fuel tank and revised ergonomics. We also present the Hyperstrada, a model equipped with a series of features that extend the motorcycle’s use into the world of touring, while maintaining the fun-to-ride character typical of a supermotard.

“With our passion for racing and sport bikes, we just had to produce an ‘R’ version of the 1199 Panigale. The ‘R’ title represents Ducati’s maximum expression of technology. In this case, connecting rods in titanium in addition to many other lightweight components and a race kit that represents a package ideal from which to develop the Superbike version, which will race next year. We have also decided to extend the Diavel range with the introduction of the Diavel Strada. Equipped with luggage, large screen and revised, more upright riding position, the Diavel is now ready also to entertain riders on longer rides outside the city.”

2013 Ducati Hypermotard family
As expected, the focus of attention at the presentation was on the new generation of the Hypermotard family. It takes the innovation and excitement of the original concept and enhances it even further with three incredible new models: The thrilling Hypermotard, Hypermotard SP and the introduction of a stylish and accessible mid-range tourer with everyday practicality – The Hyperstrada. The new range combines Ducati’s latest technologies with outstanding Italian design and engineering to write the latest chapter in the Hypermotard story. The Hypermotard and Hypermotard SPdeliver a thrilling and fun filled experience, whether on the daily commuteor ripping-up the track asphalt, while the Hyperstrada awaits long distanceadventure, enabling practical, everyday motorcycling in absolute Ducati style.

Pirelli Initiatives for the 70th Edition of EICMA

13 11 2012

The manufacturer from Milan will take part at the International Motorcycle Show, with stand G30 in pavilion 2 dedicated to custom bikes.

MILAN, ITALY – November 12, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Pirelli will be at the 70th edition of the International Motorcycle Show (EICMA), from 13 to 18 November. They will be at stand G30 in pavilion 2 with its flagship product dedicated to the custom world – Night Dragon. In addition, on the evening of 15 November, Pirelli will be organizing the Ridersnight GommaTi event outside of show hours in cooperation with the PirelliFoundation and the Riders Italian Magazine in the Isola district of the Lombardy capital.

The Night Dragons are the new generation of custom touring tires from Pirelli, which is increasingly committed to developing technologically cutting-edge tires, not only in the sport and racing environment, but also in the touring and custom arena. The Pirelli Night Dragons are tires dedicated to custom bike owners who, in addition to the features of stability and long life – definite musts for this segment – are also looking for the handling and grip, which are programmed into the Pirelli DNA. These bikers are the same ones who often modify their bikes to increase power and they often change the exhaust and suspension too. Night Dragon is just the way to interpret the custom touring segment according to Pirelli, keeping pace with the evolution and needs of custom bikers in terms of traction and grip, and providing a unique tire in a class that embodies the sporting DNA of the brand and at the same time the most important characteristics for a custom tire: mileage and stability.

Stand G30 in EICMA pavilion 2 will be dedicated specifically to Night Dragon, which saw an expansion in sizes in the range this spring. The stand has been designed by Pirelli as a meeting and socialization hub where visitors will be able to take in the atmosphere of the custom world: a Harley Davidson Fat Bob will be on display, branded for the occasion with Pirelli Night Dragon logos and references by customizers from the German Harley Davidson Aachen dealership, alongside another model from the prestigious American company – a Softail Deluxe. Butthat’s not all. At the Night Dragon stand tattoo artists will be on hand totattoo the tread of a few tires, bringing real tire works of art to life.

Then, on the evening of 15 November, starting at 8:30pm at the Revel Scalo D’Isola restaurant at via Thaon de Revel 3, in the heart of the Isola district of Milan, the Ridersnight GommaTi event will be held, organized by Pirelli in cooperation with Riders Italian Magazine and the Pirelli Foundation. For a week, the Isola district will be the setting where style and bikes come together under the umbrella of creativity and, in this context, GommaTi will be the culminating party-event of all the activities already scheduled by the bike-district during the week dedicated to two-wheel passion. The common thread of the evening will be the tire, which, through a creative and interactive path arranged in stations, will be presented in all of its configurations. The entire via Thaon de Revel from Thursday through Sunday will be reserved for the event by involving businesses using the classic Pirelli Foundation advertising and creating an open air “exhibition” of Pirelli’s iconographic and cultural heritage.

Pirelli will progressively introduce this new tire – first in the racing world with the release of the compound version that will be used in the FIM Superstock 1000 FIM Cup starting next year and next as an expansion of the available range at the end of 2012.  This will allow the introduction of a broader range of racing sizes to extend use of the new tire in various national championships where Pirelli now competes. Finally in early 2013, the road going race replica version will be made available in the common 180/55, 190/55 and 190/50 size for the rear.

The street version of the Diablo Supercorsa (SP) is a concentration of technology taken from the experience and racing heritage acquired by Pirelli in its role as sole supplier of the Superbike World Championship since 2004 and is a tire for street use – offering performance typical of racing products for exclusive use on track.  This will give the user a unique ultra-high performance product that can be used on the street or the track without the need to compromise.

First to showcase this tire and its excellent qualities is Ducati, who, also due to the close collaboration with Pirelli’s research and development center, has selected the new Diablo Supercorsa in its street version (SP) to equip its all-new 1199 Panigale, adopting the same measures of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup (120/70 and 200/55).

The new Diablo Supercorsa, compared to the previous version, has a rear profile calibrated with approximately 2 mm more side edge and 4 mm more diameter in the center for increased support under braking and to make riding more intuitive and precise in maintaining the line. The rear tire has been completely revamped and improved upon in order to increase contact area, grip, the speed of lean-in and handling overall.

The structures and compounds of the Diablo Supercorsa are derived from its predecessor’s use in WSBK racing activities and optimize the performances instilled by the profiles. In particular, the 200/55ZR17 rear tire is built with a high modulus carcass and features a dual-compound tread using new polymers to offer quick warm-up and a solid grip in all conditions. The result of this match between the two new profiles of the front and rear is an increased handling and agility overall.

The new dual-compound tread pattern of the race replica version is characterized by long longitudinal grooves which begin at the central area of the profile and reach the tire shoulder to ensure the regularity of wear even during more severe use. The shoulder of the tire remains ‘naked’, a distinctive line of Diablo, for sport use on the road which demands maximum grip.

Beyond the demonstrated technological characteristics, the new Diablo Supercorsa SP does not compromise the customizable ultra-modern and timeless look that has characterized the latest products presented in Pirelli’s Diablo range. The new Supercorsa also permits tire customization through the application of special labels to dedicated areas on the sidewalls of the front and rear tires made to accommodate the labels, which anyone can freely create on Pirelli’s website and have shipped directly their home (service currently available in Europe and Australia).

Introducing the 690 Duke

Renowned for producing winning offroad bikes and fresh from a season of unparalleled success in MX World championship competition, KTM has also long turned its attention to street bikes. Now, just one model year on from the introduction of the highly successful 125 Duke, the entry level bike that has captivated the attention of not only young riders across Europe and beyond, KTM is proud to unveil the 690 Duke at EICMA. Based on more than 20 years of experience in LC4 motor technology and 18 years after the launch of the very first Duke, this single-cylinder bike is a dynamic but comfortable machine with even more power, brand new ABS, very impressive riding characteristics and a cutting edge design that is both new and typically KTM. The 690 Duke represents the very essence of the KTM philosophy and dedication for producing bikes that deliver pure riding pleasure and sporting satisfaction.

200 Duke follows success of entry level 125 Duke

Following the unprecedented success of the 125 Duke in 2011, which rocketed to the top of the 125 cc bike segment sales in the first six month of its release in the early summer of 2011, KTM now presents the equally attractive 200 cc version. This is a sporty small motorcycle that produces 19 kW (26 hp) that more than matches its little brother in impressive handling and typical KTM design language. The 200 Duke continues the success story of the KTM Duke models and the only small thing about it is the price.

Freeride E: the evolution of revolution

KTM has taken on the challenge of developing an electrically driven offroad sports motorcycle for mass production and has become the first of the major motorcycle companies to do so. This exciting, sports-oriented, environmentally friendly bike is the culmination of three intense years of hard work and a commitment to innovation. The Freeride E embodies all the collective KTM experience garnered during years of development of conventional combustion-driven models and has resulted in a motorcycle that is not only pure KTM but also globally unique. The electric motor, developed in-house, is the throbbing heart of this dynamic machine that is not only emission free but is also almost silent. The Freeride E is proof of KTM’s drive and determination to take on a highly complex project and successfully transform it into a bike that offers intense riding pleasure in the spirit of pure offroad sports. 2012 is only the beginning of what represents a challenging, but electrifyingly exciting new segment in tune with the demands of today’s society.

Freeride 350

The sport of motorcycling is at the very apex of the KTM philosophy. That is why for 2012 the company has also produced a second Freeride model with a conventional drive. Building on the extremely well balanced engine characteristics of the 350 cc engine that has served KTM’s Motocross and Enduro competition bikes so well in the past two years, the Freeride 350 is a lightweight bike capable of translating the thrill of the classic Enduro experience into one that requires the least amount of physical exertion. The Freeride 350 is the perfect introduction to the thrill and exhilaration of Enduro sport. Indeed with this bike, Enduro has never been easier.

Let the curtain go up on the World of KTM at EICMA 2011
KTM is proud to present new developments, innovations and updates right across its model range at EICMA 2011. In addition to the four outstanding new models there have been numerous improvements to existing models. The 690 SMC R and the 690 Enduro R have been completely revised to be more powerful and feature a fresh new design. Whether it is updating the 990 SM R to include ABS in 2012 or giving the 990 Super Duke R a pillion, the KTM development team, driven by pure passion, continues its mission to develop the world’s best sports motorcycles.
