GNCC Hits First of Two West Virginia Stops

JANESVILLE, WI – June 13, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – The Grand National Cross Country Series will makes its first stop in many years to the trails in Masontown, W. Va. Taking place at Marvin’s Mountain Top, riders will face a technical and rocky course with elevation changes. Bike XC1 rider Josh Strang is up for the challenge as he hopes to race back to the podium following a third-place ride at the previous round.

Moose Racing’s Josh Strang Returns to GNCC Podium

JANESVILLE, WI – June 3, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – After some rainfall on Saturday, the GNCC bike riders were faced with a muddy course to tackle at Round 7 in Millfield, Ohio. That didn’t stop Josh Strang from charging in the late stages of the race to finish with his third podium of the season.

Prior to the afternoon races, Women’s class rider Kacy Martinez scored her sixth podium finish of the season and holds a one-point lead in the championship standings at the halfway point in the season.

On Saturday, the ATVs were center stage. Kevin Yoho scored a consistent sixth-place finish, while Braden Henthorn worked his way through the pack to finish just behind Yoho in seventh. After grabbing the XC1 holeshot, Moose Racing rider Eric Hoyland ran into some trouble and was unable to continue the race after the third lap.

Also taking place over the weekend was the first-ever Tennessee National at Muddy Creek Raceway. Blue skies and motocross’ first return to the Southeast brought out thousands of fans. Moose Racing’s Phil Nicoletti continued to make improvements, notching a eighth-place finish in the first moto. Bike issues forced an early end to his second moto, but still scored 14th overall thanks to his Moto 1 effort.

Thor Riders Claim Wins at Supercross and GNCC

JANESVILLE, WI – April 8, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Thor’s Ryan Villopoto came, saw, and conquered the latest Monster Energy Supercross at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. Leading every lap and taking home the win, Villopoto stretched his win-streak to five and upped his points lead to 21 with four rounds remaining.

Also putting in an impressive ride in Houston was 250SX rider Marvin Musquin, who made his sixth trip to the podium with a third-place finish. The Eastern Regional riders have two rounds remaining and Musquin is in the thick of the championship battle, just eight points out of first place.

It was also an exciting night for the 250SX class as three-time Arenacross champion Tyler Bowers made his 2013 supercross debut with a career-best fourth place result. The reigning Arenacross champion made jump to supercross to help out the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team for the remaining Eastern Regional rounds.

Round 3 of the Grand National Cross Country Series was help in Morganton, N.C. over the weekend. Charlie Mullins and Kailub Russell made it another Thor 1-2 sweep with Mullins grabbing his second win of the season. Mullins moved into sole possession of the points lead over his teammate Russell, who sits just five points back.

In the XC2 class, Thor’s Grant Baylor returned to the podium for the second-straight race. His third-place finish has helped him remain in a tights points battle where he’s currently third and only four points back from second place. Thor’s Cody Gragg also made it out to North Carolina for his first GNCC of the year, placing a solid seventh-place in the XC2 class. Maria Forsberg also won the Women’s class earlier in the day, taking over the class points lead.

The Monster Energy Supercross riders will head to Minneapolis, Minn. for the first time since 2008 as they take over the Metrodome in downtown. The GNCC riders get a bit of a break until returning to action on April 21 in Union, S.C.

Moose Racing Riders Battle at GNCC and Supercross

JANESVILLE, WI – April 8, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Moose Racing’s Phil Nicoletti continued to show improvement at the Monster Energy Supercross at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. He won the last chance qualifier to make his fifth straight main during his rookie 450SX season. In the main event, he was running inside the top 10 before a small crash pushed him back, but didn’t give up and worked his way back up to 12th.

The GNCC retuned after a few weekends off for its third round of the season at Steele Creek Campgrounds in Morganton, N.C. Moose Racing’s XC2 ATV rider Patrick McGuire raced to the top of the podium for his first win of the season. In the XC1 class, Kevin Yoho had a good showing finishing sixth, while Braden Henthorn and Eric Hoyland finished just behind in seventh and eighth, respectively.

On Sunday, XC1 riders Nick Fahringer and Josh Strang lined up to tackle the course. Fahringer remained consistent throughout the race to finish with a season-best sixth. Strang got out to a good start and was running in third after the opening lap. A crash halfway through the race pushed him out of podium contention, but he kept pushing and eventually finished 12th. In the XC2 class, Shane Hufford, Jr. put together a good ride in sixth, while Travis Coy finished ninth.

Thor’s Villopoto, Musquin, and Russell Come Up With Big Wins at Supercross and GNCC

JANESVILLE, WI – March 18, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Ryan Villopoto, Marvin Musquin, and Kailub Russell all grabbed wins at their respective Supercross and GNCC races over the weekend, making it another big weekend for the Thor MX team.

Starting on Saturday, Villopoto entered Round 10 of the Monster Energy Supercross series in Indianapolis, Ind. with a two-point advantage and looked poised to extend his lead. After winning his heat race in dominating fashion, Villopoto used his good start to stay with the lead riders. Just after moving into second, the leader stalled, allowing Villopoto to take advantage of the mistake, eventually holding on to claim a season-high sixth victory, and fourth-consecutive win at the Lucas Oil Stadium.

Musquin proved he would be competitive in Indianapolis with fast lap times being posted throughout the day and collecting his first heat win of the season. He had his work cut out for him in the main event after starting 16th on the opening lap, but his impressive speed had him in second right before the white flag. On the final lap, he inherited the lead with only a a half lap remaining, giving Musquin his second-consecutive victory.

Thor’s Justin Hill also put in a notable finish at Lucas Oil Stadium. He rode to a second-place finish in his heat, and ended up with a top-five finish in the main event, tying his season-best. Cole Thompson was running up front at the start of the main event, but a tip over cost him several spot and he eventually finished 16th. Dean Wilson did not compete in the main event after a crash in his heat ended his night early.

Along with the supercross riders’ notable finishes, off-road riders Charlie Mullins and Kailub Russell again put on a show for the spectators at the GNCC in Washington, Ga. The two separated themselves from the pack and battled right down to the final lap, with Russell prevailing as the winner. Mullins grabbed the runner-up spot and the KTM teammates are now tied for the points lead, leading third by 16 points.

The Monster Energy Supercross riders will now head out of the country to their single international stop in Toronto, Canada on Saturday. The GNCC riders will get a few weeks off before convening in Morganton, N.C. on April 6.

Moose Racing’s Tyler Bowers Captures Third Consecutive Arenacross Title

JANESVILLE, WI – March 18, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Moose Racing’s Tyler Bowers earned his third-straight Arenacross championship on Saturday night in Denver, Colo., becoming only the third rider in the series’ history to complete such a feat. After the final checkered flag flew, Bowers had tallied 10 overall wins, and 20 main event victories this season alone.

Bowers’ teammate Zach Ames also had a great season, finishing third overall in the points standings. He finished the season well with a fifth overall on Friday night, and a stood on the podium in second on Saturday. Tyler Villopoto also competed in Denver, finishing fifth in the Arenacross Lites class on Friday, and 14th in the Arenacross class on Saturday.

With a shorter than normal break between races, the Grand National Cross Country series convened on Aonia Pass MX in Washington, Ga. for the second round of the season. On Saturday, the XC1 riders improved on their Round 1 scores, with Brian Wolf narrowly missing the podium in fourth and Kevin Yoho finding good speed to finish fifth. Class newcomers Eric Hoyland and Braden Henthorn finished inside the top 10 in eighth and ninth, respectively.

On Sunday, the bikes lined up for another great battle and Josh Strang didn’t disappoint with another strong finish in fourth in the XC1 class. He currently sit third in the points standings after two rounds. In the XC2 class, Shane Hufford Jr. battled through the pack after coming through as high as ninth to work his way back up to finish an impressive fourth. Scott Grill also had a good ride in seventh. Women’s rider Kacy Martinez put together another solid finish, scoring another second-place finish in her class and placing her in a three-way tie for the points lead.

Moose Racing’s Nick Fahringer wrapped up his bike week campaign in Florida with a great second-place ride at the Alligator Enduro in Daytona Beach.

The AMA Flat Track Series held its first event of the season in Daytona Beach, Fla. with the singles riders taking on the Daytona International Speedway short track. Still riding back to health after a big injury last season, Pro Singles rider Gerit Callies qualified for the final on Friday night, finishing seventh.
