19 03 2013

CORONA, CA – March 18, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Justin Hill and Dean Wilson battled it out at the fifth round of the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross 250SX East series in Indianapolis. Hill rode a consistent heat race and main event to score a top 5 finish while Wilson was the fastest during practice but a hard crash in the heat sidelined him for the main event.

Justin Hill >> On the Right Path
Hill had a strong run in his heat race, getting a good jump out of the gate and he rode consistent for the six laps to easily advance to the main event. In the feature race, Hill rounded the first corner near the back of the field, but the rookie rider remained composed and slowly worked his way up. THe tacky dirt at Indianapolis allowed for some passing and Hill took advanage moving up to fifth by the end of the 15-lap main event.

Once again Wilson showed he was the fastest in the 250SX class, pacing the field during practice and earning the top qualifying spot. In his heat race he landed a tough block which sent Wilson hard to the ground and out of the race. Wilson went to the hospital on Saturday night with a cracked rib and punctured lung.

6 03 2013

Latest models showcase focus on innovative features, versatility and performance

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – March 6, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Since its founders invented the snowmobile almost 60 years ago, Polaris has been a leader in the snowmobile industry, known for innovation, appreciation for the riding lifestyle and the best-riding sleds available. Earlier this week at the Phoenix Convention Center, Polaris unveiled its 2014 snowmobile lineup to hundreds of its dealers including seven all-new INDY models, highlighted by the 800 INDY SP and the 600 INDY Voyager. The event showcased a diverse lineup, one providing a model suited to every riding need from recreational to utility. The 2014 Polaris lineup features 30 models in total.

“Polaris continues to embrace our proud history while aggressively looking forward to the next innovations in snowmobiling,” said Bennett Morgan, president and COO, Polaris Industries Inc. “We’re riders ourselves, and we produce sleds that we’d want to ride – machines that promise unmatched performance, comfort and versatility. For 2014, we’ve produced a collection of sleds that honor that promise and embodied our unwavering commitment to be the best in powersports.”

Polaris not only unveiled sleds to dominate any terrain, it also announced expanded color customization and expanded factory-installed options to its Polaris SnowCheck Select program for 2014. Riders will have more choices than ever this year to custom-order their dream snowmobile. The 2014 program runs through April 23, 2013. Riders can customize their sleds online at www.terraindomination.com. Complete details can be found online or by visiting a local Polaris dealer.

2014 MODEL LINE

INDY®

The most legendary name in snowmobiling is blazing new trails in model year 2014 with seven all-new models aimed at capturing new segments of the snowmobiling population.

“The seven new INDY models we’re introducing in model year 2014 are more than great sleds. They address important customers and market segments that constitute 31 percent of the total snowmobile market,” said Mike Jonikas, vice president of snowmobiles, sales and corporate marketing. “There’s a major opportunity for Polaris to grow in these markets and we’re pinned to win with this lineup of new INDY sleds, which better position us to capture new customers and continue to grow our business in the years to come.”

The popular 600 INDY and 600 INDY SP are both back, joined this year by the 800 INDY SP and the 550 INDY, creating a stable of four INDY models (with three different engine sizes) ideal for carving trails. Driven by the reliable 800 Cleanfire® engine, the new 800 boasts more power while maintaining the smooth ride for which the 600 models are known, while the 550 provides an easy-handling alternative. Meanwhile, the 550 INDY LXT is ideal for high-mileage touring, built on the light, rigid PRO-RIDE™ chassis, a 144” track that bridges uneven terrain and outfitted with a collection of comfort features for long rides. When it’s time to work, the 550 and 600 INDY Voyager models excel, with a large, durable rear cargo rack and high-flotation Gripper skis for traction. All 550 models come with the new CVTech Powerbloc 50 drive clutch, paired with the Invance driven clutch, which delivers smooth engagement and quieter operation. Many INDY models satisfy several riding uses in a single machine, but none are quite as versatile as the 550 INDY Adventure, equipped to tackle a variety of rides with a new cargo system that can be installed and removed in seconds, without tools, and the Lock & Ride® Convertible Passenger Seat that quickly converts this single-seat sled into a 2-up.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – March 6, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – For more than a half-century, Polaris has been synonymous with producing the best-riding snowmobiles in the world. Debuted yesterday at Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort in Orlando, Fla., the 2013 Polaris snowmobile lineup embraces the Company’s proud heritage while pushing forward with innovative technological advances. These concepts are embodied by the return of the iconic Indy model line and the debut of the ultra-light, 417-pound 800 Pro-RMK 155. In all, Polaris’ 2013 lineup offers 27 models.

For model year 2013, Polaris is reintroducing the legendary Indy model line. The Polaris Indy 600, pictured here, comes standard with the industry’s most-advanced Independent Front Suspension, the proven PRO-RIDE(TM) chassis, which is 300 percent stiffer to deliver precise handling, and Indy Coupled Rear Suspension, with a skid design that manages impact energy. 2013 MODEL LINES

INDY
The Indy name has graced more snowmobile hoods than any other. Polaris’ Independent Front Suspension (IFS) drove Indy’s popularity with riders for decades. The newest Indy continues that smooth-riding legacy, with the industry’s most-advanced IFS, the proven PRO-RIDE™ chassis, which is 300 percent stiffer to deliver precise handling, and Indy Coupled Rear Suspension, with a skid design that manages impact energy. Enhanced premium features, such as FOX® shocks and Pro-Steer™ skis, are available on the Indy 600 SP.

Models: 600 Indy, 600 Indy SP

RUSH
Five 2013 RUSH models – including one designed for youth riders – continue to offer features that made it revolutionary when originally released. This includes the balanced PRO-RIDE chassis that places riders in the optimal position for balancing the sled and the PRO-RIDE progressive-rate rear suspension, the industry’s first and best truly progressive-rate rear suspension. New this year, RUSH models are outfit with Pro-Steer Ski to reduce steering effort, one-piece handlebar for improved comfort and control, and a wider seat to make the transition between seated and standing riding positions easier than ever before.

The Pro-RMK front end uses bonded lower control arms with forged aluminum ends and steel tubing to reduce weight while enhancing strength. The new QuickDrive™ Low Inertia Drive System integrates the drive and brake components in an efficient design that eliminates the need for oil or a tensioner system. Polaris Switchback models have always offered riders versatility, perfectly suited for riding on or off the trail. The Switchback’s uncanny ability to transfer weight – via its PRO-RIDE 136” Progressive-Rate Rear Suspension and rider active control, which senses shifts in the rider’s weight and responds with more or less cornering power – keeps the rider, and not the terrain, in control. New this year, the Switchback offers Pro-Steer Ski, which reduces both steering effort and slipping when a rider attacks deep snow.

Models: 600 Switchback, 800 Switchback, 600 Switchback Pro-R, 800 Switchback Pro-R

SWITCHBACK® ADVENTURE
Last year, Polaris unveiled the 600 Switchback Adventure, a class-defying adventure snowmobile built for riders who live for uncharted rides. For riders who spend more time conquering terrain than most, there are several accessories on the 600 Switchback Adventure to help with the journey: the adventure cargo system, which relies on Lock & Ride® saddlebags to provide expansive cargo area, a tall windshield for added protection, electric start and 12v outlets for accessories like GPS.

Models: 600 Switchback Adventure

SHIFT
An exceptional value, Polaris’ Shift models provide performance elements riders expect from Polaris for a great price. 2010 XDL Finals In Indy The Best Ever!

3 09 2010

LOS ANGELES, CA – September 2, 2010 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – After five years of building up a series, the XDL Championship Series has established itself as a major form of motorcycle entertainment, and the XDL Finals put an exclamation mark on the season. The riders were in top form and delivered precision, aggression, speed, acrobatics and comedy. Yes, comedy. In five years there has never been a show this complete, well rounded and entertaining.

The setting for the XDL Finals is the Indiana War Memorial, just a few blocks north of downtown Indy. XDL closes down North street between Meridian and Pennsylvania and uses the adjacent park as a venue. Now in its third year at this location, XDL has managed to perfect the layout, and for the second year in a row, Saturday night was a sell out. The competitions got under way with the K&N Circle Challenge, which saw Icon rider Ernie Vigil take the top spot for the first time in 2010. Unlike in other seasons, 2010 saw a different winner of the K&N Circle Challenge at each stop. A fact that goes to show how competitive this event has become. Winner Vigil noted that in future years riders will be able to lock in and spin so quickly they are liable to get thrown off their bikes. Sounds like the best is yet to come.

Adding to the action packed Friday night program were the finals for the first-ever Sartso Women’s Cup. Originally intended as a trial program, the Sartso Women’s Cup saw such strong participation it was held at every stop on the schedule and even included in the X Games demo. The finals saw five women go head-to-head with Racing 905’s Dena Sodano crowned the 2010 champion. In the seven months since the season opener, the women have made such rapid progress and the riding has become so good, that they have established a firm foothold within XDL and with the fans.

Comic relief came in the form of Team Road Hazard who took the win in the Team Battle. Chris McNeil, Dan Jackson, Bill Dixon and Brian Bubash combined for a 4-up “mandem” and executed stoppies, wheelies and circles before jumping on to their own bikes for a synchronized routine. Somewhere in there Chris McNeil managed to throw down a dance number worthy of an NFL end zone appearance.

Capping off the night was Speed & Strength Sickest Trick. This competition is judged by other riders, so even though there was plenty of fire, acrobatics and mayhem, the top three runs were all very difficult technical maneuvers. Racing 905 rider Luke Emmons impressed the judges with a 50/50 stoppie to a 180 wall park for his first Speed & Strength Sickest Trick win of the season.

Saturday offered up the Aprilia All Star Challenge and FMF Cup. Eric Pettit won his first-ever Aprilia All Star Challenge by consistently out-performing Dan Jackson and Bill Dixon all year. Initially known as the guy that could win only in the wet, Pettit proved that he could win consistently, in all conditions.

The FMF Cup main event was possibly the most tense of the season. Riders were battling fatigue and dehydration with temperatures hovering around 95 degrees. Everyone, including the top guys was experiencing difficulties and in the third round it started to show as Shin Kinoshita, Bill Dixon and Chris McNeil all crashed. The podium ended up featuring familiar names and was almost a carbon copy of the LA round. Icon rider Nick Brocha took the win, which was all the more bittersweet since he lost the championship by a mere point. Brocha vowed to return even stronger, Dixon pledged to be the first three-peat champion and Emmons said he will do what it takes in the off-season to win the title in 2011. Sounds like we’ll be in for a thriller of a year.

Next up is the launch of Inside XDL on VERSUS, where you can relive the entire 2010 season and get a peek at what goes on behind the scenes.

Teen motorcycle racer killed in crash at Indy

29 08 2010

By MICHAEL MAROT (AP)

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – August 29, 2010 – (Motor Sports Newswire) -  A 13-year-old motorcycle racer died Sunday after falling off his bike and getting run over by another motorcycle at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Peter Lenz of Vancouver, Wash., was pronounced dead by the Marion County coroner after sustaining “traumatic injuries.” The accomplished teenage rider crashed on a warmup lap before his race and was struck by 12-year-old Xavier Zayat, who was uninjured in the accident.

Medical workers immediately placed Lenz in a neck brace, put him on a stretcher and began chest compressions while taking him to a hospital. The coroner confirmed his death about 3 hours later, the first at the speedway since IndyCar driver Tony Renna was killed in October 2003.

“Peter passed away early this morning when he was apparently struck by another rider,” said a posting Sunday on Lenz’s Facebook page, which was signed “Dad.”

“He passed doing what he loved and had his go fast face on as he pulled onto the track,” the posting said. “The world lost one of its brightest lights today. God Bless Peter and the other rider involved. 45 is on another road we can only hope to reach. Miss you kiddo.”

Lenz rode the No. 45 bike. It wasn’t immediately clear whether his parents were in Indianapolis and a home phone number for the family was not listed.

Track officials confirmed that Lenz is the youngest racer killed at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which opened in 1909 and has been used by numerous series ever since.

“On behalf of the Lenz family, we would like to thank Peter’s friends and supporters for all their help throughout the years,” the family said in a statement passed out to reporters. “We are deeply saddened by the loss but know that Peter is racing even faster in the sky.”

The family said additional thoughts and messages could be posted on the Facebook page.

The crash delayed the start of the U.S. Grand Prix Racers Union event in which Lenz was scheduled to start, but the three races sanctioned by the MotoGP Series all started on time.

USGPRU spokesman Bill Syfan did not respond to interview requests from The Associated Press, but a news conference was scheduled for later Sunday.

Despite being only 13 years old and listing his profession on the Grand Prix website as “kid,” Lenz was already a well-known racer. He had been riding bikes for six years, won nine national championships and nine regional titles, and appeared to be a rising star in a series that bills itself as a prep for riders 12 to 18 who hope to compete at a higher level.

Those races are not typically held in conjunction with MotoGP events.

The fatal accident Sunday will almost certainly spark a debate about how young is too young for racers to be competing on one of the world’s best-known tracks, whether it’s inside a car or riding a motorcycle capable of speeds well over 100 mph.

Speedway officials declined to comment on the issue but pointed out that East Coast Region riders also compete at Virginia International Raceway and Road America, while the West Coast Region holds races at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah and Portland International Raceway.

MotoGP riders Colin Edwards and Ben Spies competed at even higher levels as teens. Edwards ran his first 250cc race at 17, while Spies made his first start in the 125cc series at 12.

Racing conditions were not ideal this weekend.

Hot, dry weather turned Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s bumpy, 2.621-mile course into a slick track that was challenging even for the world’s best riders.

Reigning world champ Valentino Rossi fell four times since practice opened Friday, including a spill Sunday morning during a 20-minute warmup session. Spies and points leader Jorge Lorenzo also acknowledged after qualifying Saturday that the track was difficult.

The Moto2 race Sunday was shortened after a big wreck took out four drivers on the first lap. Eight drivers did not finish that race.

Lenz had three third-place finishes this season in the 125GP class and had won three races in the MD250H class, which was the race being run Sunday.
