First BRP Half-Marathon: Open to the Public

11 04 2013

VALCOURT, QUEBEC – April 11, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) –  The first BRP half-marathon will take place through the streets of Valcourt on Sunday, May 5. Josée Fontaine and Julie Morel, both seasoned runners and BRP employees, put together this initiative to encourage physical activity and healthy eating.

Although the two organizers have already reached their goal of over 500 registrations among BRP employees and their families and friends, they decided to extend registration to people in the area, giving everyone a chance to take part in this first BRP half-marathon. More than 50 students from the Odyssée de Valcourt high school have been training for weeks to participate in the event.

People who want to participate have several options. A 1-kilometre route was designed for children, and 5-, 10- and 21-kilometre routes for adults. To encourage participation, the 5 km route can be walked. Anyone interested in taking part should register soon as the activity is limited to 700 participants.

“BRP values the health and well-being of its employees and of the communities in which we work,” said Gerd Ohrnberger, vice-president and general manager of the Product Engineering and Manufacturing Operations (PEMO) division and honorary president of the half-marathon. “Similar events are being held in cities where our pool of employees is large enough, such as in Austria, in the United States, in Mexico and in Finland.”

For details on the half-marathon, including the routes, registration fees and online registration, visit the website www.demimarathonbrp.com. This kind of event requires the assistance of many volunteers. Interested persons should get in touch with the organizers, whose contact information is available on the website.

BRP to Exit Sports Boat Market

14 09 2012

VALCOURT, QUEBEC, – (Motor ports Newswire) – BRP today announced it will exit the sport boat business over the coming months, citing the continued global sales decline in the marine industry, particularly the drop in sales of sport boats since the financial crisis.

“This is a difficult but necessary decision for BRP,” said José Boisjoli, president and CEO.  “We worked hard to grow our sport boat business through a serious sales decline that began in 2007. But now, we must focus our research and development resources and capital investments in areas of our business that offer greater growth potential.”

BRP entered the boat manufacturing business in 1994 and purchased the assets of Celebrity Boats in 1995, at which time it moved its facility to Benton, Illinois.

“We looked for a buyer for our sport boat business, but that effort proved unsuccessful,” Boisjoli added. “Consequently, we decided not to resume production of the upcoming model year due to seasonal production planning requirements.”

All impacted employees will receive a good transition package.

BRP will continue to provide parts and honour warranties for its customers.

BRP Wins Fifth NMMA Innovation Award in Four Years with Sea-Doo RXP-X 260 Watercraft

23 02 2012

MIAMI, FL – February 23, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – At the recent Miami International Boat Show, BRP continued its award-winning streak in the marine industry with its fifth National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) Innovation Award in four years for its new high-performance 2012 Sea-Doo RXP-X 260 watercraft.

“BRP’s Sea-Doo ErgoLock seat, angled footwells, and T3 hull combine to create a PWC with incredible turning ability and maximum comfort designed to build confidence in its rider. It made me an instant expert,” said NMMA Innovation Award judge Alan Jones.

For the fourth consecutive year, BRP won the NMMA Innovation Award in the PWC, Jet Boats, and Pontoon Boats category. The all-new 2012 Sea-Doo RXP-X 260 watercraft follows the Sea-Doo GTI 130 model (2011 winner), Sea-Doo RXT-X 260 watercraft and BRP MOVE iCatch trailer (2010 winners), and the Sea-Doo GTX Limited iS 255 PWC (2009 winner) in BRP’s innovation awards legacy by introducing the next generation of high-performance watercraft that allows the rider to fully realize the performance potential with improved rider ergonomics and a new hull design.

“BRP redefines watercraft with the introduction of the Sea-Doo RXP-X 260* model, marking the next generation of high-performance PWC,” said Yves Leduc, vice-president – general manager, North America division. “Winning five of these prestigious NMMA Innovation awards in four years is a tribute to BRP’s dedication to developing designs and technologies that lead the marine industry and the boating public into the future.”

The new Sea-Doo RXP-X watercraft redefines the musclecraft segment with an ominous visual appeal from its flowing facet design, ram air intakes, large side grills and distinctive new ErgoLock system and tight-turning T3 hull. BRP’s Ergolock system includes angled footwell wedges and a gradually narrowing seat design to help better connect the rider to the watercraft. It reduces upper body fatigue by allowing the rider to ride faster, for longer periods of time. BRP’s Ergolock system complements the tight turning aspect of the T3 hull that features an innovative dual surface design that responds differently at high or low speeds. The new T3 hull shape combines soft and hard chines and adjustable sponsons with winglets and trim tabs that allow the watercraft to lean into corners, better maintaining entry and exit speeds after turns.

“BRP continues to be recognized for developing groundbreaking innovations that enhance the riding experience for our consumers’ around the world,” stated Chris Dawson, vice-president and general manager, International division. “This latest recognition for the new Sea-Doo RXP-X 260* watercraft reinforces BRP’s standing as the industry leader, both in terms of performance and safety.”

BRP Brings New Innovations and New Look to Ski-Doo for 2013

23 02 2012

ORLANDO, FL – FEBRUARY 23, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – BRP introduces the 2013 Ski-Doo snowmobile line-up to its dealers from North America, Russia and Japan, featuring two new chassis, tMotion rear suspension, Flex Edge tracks and more.  The new line-up will appeal to consumers with features to improve their experience and raise the bar for the snowmobile industry once again.

“BRP’s continued focus on innovating to improve our customers’ experience is what defines the 2013 Ski-Doo line-up,” stated Yves Leduc, vice-president and general manager for the North America division. “The new ideas and fresh thinking that we applied to both trail and mountain snowmobiles continue to separate BRP from competitors and keep our core customers engaged while attracting newcomers to the sport.”

NEW REV-XS and REV-XM chassis

Leading the way at this year’s annual dealer meeting is the all new REV-XM platform for the mountains and the new REV-XS body style for cross-country and cross-over applications. The REV-XM platform delivers new ergonomics, function and styling to the mountain market and will establish a new benchmark in rear suspension and handling with innovative features like the tMotion rear suspension and Flex Edge track design. The REV-XS platform, for trail use, takes the look to a new level with layered floating edge design and intricate details including a jewel inspired headlight, side panels that significantly improve both function and appeal, a new tail light, snow flap and unique storage area.

“We start the second decade of the REV chassis design with the attributes of rigid pyramidal frame construction, driver and mass centered design, by giving it a whole new look and feel,” declared Chris Dawson, vice-president and general manager for the International division. “BRP is bringing specialized products to markets around the world that allow our dealers and distributors to enrich the consumer experience and keep BRP products at the forefront.”

tMotion Rear Suspension

Creative thinking has lead to a new design that enables the rear suspension rails to twist two degrees in each direction – allowing the rider to more easily initiate mountain type carving turns. The suspension also incorporates a rising-rate rear shock motion ratio to deliver a comfortable ride in small bumps while maintaining the capacity for larger bumps.

Flex Edge Track

Thinking outside the box once again has led to another innovation from BRP. The 16 inch (41 cm) wide Flex Edge track features centered reinforcing rods that are 12 inches (31 cm) long rather than traditional designs running full width. This allows the outside two inches (5 cm) of track to actually bend and flex when a rider initiates a mountain type carving turn, again requiring less effort.

rMotion Rear Suspension Expands

The widely acclaimed rMotion rear suspension expands into the Renegade model as engineers reworked it to fit the 137-inch (392-cm) track length for a segment that continues to see increased consumer interest. Plus, the industry-leading suspension will be offered to more consumers as the Ski-Doo MX Z TNT models will gain its benefits of comfort, capability, and adjustability.

Integrated Accessories – Plus LinQ System

The trend of customizing to meet specific needs continues to grow. BRP therefore introduces a complete line of accessories for the new REV-XM and REV-XS platforms also. Innovative items like auxiliary light and GPS kits integrate perfectly and are prewired for plug and play installation, or new 1 + 1 seats that provide flexibility to comfortably fit a passenger quickly and easily.

Also new is the LinQ quick-attach system that allows fast and easy installation of modular accessories like a fuel caddy and tunnel bag.

1 02 2012

VALCOURT, QC – February 1, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Dirt Trax Magazine, a North American ATV and off-road publication, has named three Can-Am off-road vehicles as 2012 Best In Class winners. The models, named in its latest issue currently on newsstands, are: 2012 Can-Am Outlander 1000 XT, Can-Am Renegade 1000 and the Can-Am Commander 800R.

“The BIC Awards were developed in response to what we perceived as a need for better industry awards,” explained Mark Lester, Dirt Trax Magazine publisher. “As a result we have developed the categories you see in the current BIC award protocol for Best In Class honours each year. The emergence of BIC awards for two categories of SxS vehicles is an indication of how we’ve attempted to ensure we’re paying attention to emerging and significant categories in the ATV / SXS business.”

Dirt Trax Magazineeditors determine best-in-class machines by comparing them to competitive models within their class during testing. Vehicles are compared in areas such as power, handling, suspension, ergonomics and build quality, among other determining factors.

“Having three Can-Am vehicles receive best-in-class honours is a tremendous accomplishment for everyone at BRP,” stated Yves Leduc, Vice-President and General Manager, North America. “Industry recognition and the Best In Class awards are always something to strive for and prove to off-road enthusiasts and it is positive reinforcement for all the dedicated work put in by our design, engineering and marketing teams.”

Redesigned for 2012, the Can-Am Outlander 1000 was a unanimous choice as the Best Big Bore Sport Utility ATV. Editors raved about its second-generation chassis and new 976cc Rotax engine, calling it “the most outrageously fast and powerful ATV ever built and the best handling and best riding ATV BRP has ever produced.” Editors named the 2012 Can-Am Renegade 1000 the Best Trail Sport ATV, saying “the new chassis takes what was a stand out Trail Sport 4X4 and makes it literally incomparable in the segment.” The Can-Am Commander 800R was selected as the Best In Class Dual Purpose UTV for its unequalled handling and ride and smooth power delivery for both work and play.

The all-new Outlander 800R (Best Big Bore Sport Utility ATV), the DS 450 (Best Hardcore Sport ATV) and the Can-Am Outlander Max 650 (Best 2-Up ATV) were named runner-up vehicles.

BRP’s Can-Am Commander SSV Wins Morocco Rally

2 11 2011

MOROCCO, AFRICA – November 1, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – BRP’s Can-Am Commander side-by-side vehicle (SSV), driven by Francisco Lopez and co-pilot Claudio Troncoso, won the Morocco Rally in the UTV category after covering 2,000 kilometres of challenging African terrains.

The duo made international headlines last week due to their impressive finish in the Morocco Rally, becoming the only UTV competitor to complete the six gruelling stages of the 2011 edition, in addition to placing 21st within the car category.

Lopez and his Can-Am Nextel Team attributed their victory to the pilots’ experience, the Can-Am Commander SSV’s outstanding performance, and the unwavering support of Jaton Racing, a Spanish company that prepared the side-by-side vehicle for the race, and provided mechanical assistance through its duration.

“Our starting objective for the race was clear: test the Can-Am Commander SSV’s capacity in difficult terrains to ensure a solid performance in the 2012 Dakar. We weren’t aspiring to win,” Lopez commented after the race. “By the last day, we had a new objective: become the first vehicle in the history of UTVs to finish the Morocco Rally.”

The Can-Am Nextel Team, who drew substantial media attention during its first appearance in the 2011 Dakar, set their sights on the Moroccan desert in early 2011. The purpose was to learn from BRP’s Can-Am Commander SSV’s performance in a rally that would allow them to adapt the unit and ensure a victorious 2012 Dakar appearance in the UTV category.

“BRP’s Can-Am Commander SSV reflects our DNA in its purest tradition,” said Chris Dawson, vice-president and general manager, International division. “This very unique side-by-side has been designed to bring a new level of power, cutting-edge design and meaningful innovations. To finish first in its category in its first test – the only SSV to complete the race – certainly delivers on our promise.”

The Can-Am Nextel Team’s will take the wheel of a 2011 Can-Am Commander SSV in a quest to secure their second international rally victory in the UTV segment at the 34th edition of the Dakar Rally.

Bushell makes History with BRP’s New Sea-Doo PWC T3 Hull

26 10 2011

LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ – October 26, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – BRP Sea-Doo personal watercraft racer, James Bushell claimed two of the most prestigious World Championship titles in all of personal watercraft (PWC) racing winning both the Pro Open and Pro GP classes at the recent IJSBA World Finals.

Bushell’s Sea-Doo Centre backed RXP-X* featuring the all new T3 hull design outclassed fields filled with the biggest names in the sport to collect his double championship. The combination of the Sea-Doo T3 hull, Australian tuner/builder Les Cooke’s abilities to bring the new Sea-Doo RXP-X* innovations to the racetrack and Bushell’s skill left no question to onlookers which watercraft was the most dominant on the water and what was in store for the future from Sea-Doo RXP-X* watercraft racers.

“James and Les’ efforts showed the world that BRP’s innovations on the new Sea-Doo RXP-X* work better than any other design on the race,” said Yves Leduc, vice president – general manager, North America division. “BRP is extremely proud of James Bushell’s double world championship winning performance on the new Sea-Doo T3 hull.”
