JANESVILLE, WI – June 10, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – A stacked field of riders lined up for the fourth round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris, Pa., but it was Thor’s Ryan Villopoto and Marvin Musquin who walked away with the biggest trophies of the day. Villopoto scored his third 1-1 moto sweep of the season in the 450 Class, while Musquin captured his first-career moto victory on U.S. soil en route to securing his second straight overall win.
Ryan Villopoto and Marvin Musquin
Several days of rain leading up to the event resulted in tricky track conditions for the riders, transitioning from a muddy morning to faster, dry conditions in the afternoon. The 450 Class started the day with Villopoto quickly opening a multi-second lead on the opening lap. By the end of Moto 1, Villopoto stretched his lead to nearly 17 seconds. In Moto 2, Villopoto was more tactical in his approach after a fourth-place start, but eventually slipped by his competitors on Lap 7 and went on to win by a margin of 9.6 seconds.
Musquin’s path to back-to-back overall victories was a matter of consistency and determination. After scoring a well-deserved second place in Moto 1, the Frenchman led the second moto wire-to-wire despite pressure late in the moto from his teammate. With his experience and confidence growing, Musquin is proving to be a threat for the 250 Class title.
Villopoto was accompanied on the 450 Class podium by fellow Thor rider Tyla Rattray, who put forth his best ride of the season in third overall. Rattray shot out to two great starts and finished strong with 4-4 moto results, which placed him third when the final scores were tallied.
Tyla Rattray
Reigning 250 Class Champion Blake Baggett continued his resurgence at the High Point National with a solid fifth-place effort overall. He showed his ability to charge through the pack in the opening moto, finishing fourth, and provided a similar push in the second moto to end up eighth.
Blake Baggett
450 Class rider Josh Grant rode to his best finish of the season in eighth overall. Grant continued to show improvement with a solid fifth-place charge in in the opening moto and then picked up the Moto 2 holeshot. It looked as if Grant was on his way to another great finish, but after twisting his ankle in a rut on Lap 8, he lost some ground to the field. Despite the pain, Grant regrouped and pushed his way back inside the top 10 to finish the moto in eighth.
Martin Davalos and rookie Justin Hill collected 12th and 13th, respectively, after making their way through the pack in each moto. Hometown rider Darryn Durham, who is still gaining strength following an opening round leg injury, posted one of his best moto finishes of the season with an eighth in Moto 1, but after misfortune in Moto 2, a DNF placed Durham 14th overall.

JANESVILLE, WI – June 3, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Thor’s Marvin Musquin had been riding consistent all year, and on Saturday that consistency helped him win the overall 250MX race at Muddy Creek Raceway in Blountville, Tenn. Fellow Thor rider Blake Baggett’s pass for third late in Moto 2 helped Musquin, who was sporting the easy-to-spot Phase Vented Warp Yellow kit, secure his second career 250MX overall victory with 2-2 moto scores. After three completed rounds, Musquin sits third in the championship standings.
Baggett also put together two consistent moto scores of 3-3, giving him enough points to finish fourth overall. Even though he’s not back to 100 percent, the reigning 250MX champ showed a bit of the late-race charge that he’s known for and continued to look stronger in the hot race conditions.

In the 450MX class, Villopoto collected his fifth-straight moto victory with the Moto 1 win. The second moto started out on the right note with Villopoto in the lead, but went down during the opening lap and remounting in 16th. He put on a charge with over 30 minutes to use in his bid to the front, eventually coming away with a fourth-place finish. His 1-4 moto scores still placed him on the podium in third overall and maintained the points lead by a double digit margin.
Josh Grant’s day started well as he posted the fastest time in both practice sessions and earned the top qualifier award. He got out to a mid-pack start in the opening moto and worked his way through the pack to finish with his best result of the season in seventh. The second moto was going well, but a mechanical kept him from finishing and finished the day 13th overall.
450MX rider Tyla Rattray also had a good first moto finishing 11th. On the short and narrow first turn of Moto 2, Rattray was caught up in a pile up and his bike was damaged enough to end his day earlier than expected. He finished 17th overall.
Tyla Rattray
The 250MX riders faced the hottest moto of the day during Moto 2, but that didn’t stop Martin Davalos from posting a great eighth-place finish. His combined 13-8 scores placed him just outside the top 10 in 11th.
Martin Davalos
Rookie Justin Hill also had a better second moto, finishing 14th overall with a 16-14. Returning from a week off to help his injured leg strengthen, Thor’s Darryn Durham put in a heart-felt effort despite the painful injury and scored 17th overall with a 14-17.

450MX class rookie Dean Wilson wasn’t in attendance at the Tennessee National after suffered an injury during practice earlier in the week. His Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team reports he will be out for the remainder of the season.

OAKLAND, CA – January 28, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Thor’s Ryan Villopoto picked up where he left off in Anaheim, earning back-to-back wins and becoming the first two-time 450SX class winner of the season at O.co Coliseum in Oakland, Calif. Villopoto grabbed his first holeshot award of the season and never looked back, eventually coming across the finish line over 10 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Villopoto’s consistency through the past three rounds have helped him climb the points standings where he currently sits third, just eight points out of the lead.

While Villopoto was earning the holeshot and breaking away from the pack, there was a huge pile-up behind him in the second turn that collected Thor’s Josh Grant. After a great start, Grant was in the top 10 before going down. He regrouped as quickly as possible, but had to start nearly a lap down in 18th. He made steady progress throughout the 20-lap race, finishing 16th.

In the Western Regional 250SX class, Martin Davalos bounced back from a tough weekend in Anaheim to finish just off the podium in Oakland. Davalos didn’t waste anytime getting to the front pack and remained consistent through the 15-lap main event where he finished fourth. His result helped propel him to seventh in the standings after entering the event 10th. Tyla Rattray showed improvement throughout the day, but a mid-pack start forced him to work his way through the pack, eventually finishing eighth.

With his podium finish last week and the win on Saturday, Villopoto now sits fourth, 11 points back from the points leader.

Entering the weekend under the weather, Thor’s Josh Grant rode the third round not at 100 percent. Despite the lack of seat time during the week, Grant kept pace and rode as hard as he could to finish a solid 10th during main event.

The Western Regional 250SX rider Tyla Rattray and Martin Davalos pushed through some bad luck in Anaheim during the main event. Davalos had a good heat race and was looking to transfer that speed into the main, but fell victim of getting caught up in an opening lap pile up and had to charge through the pack. Even though he started the opening lap in 16th, he was able to catch some riders and finish 12th. Rattray put together a solid eighth-place ride.

Thor’s Taylor Robert was able to pick up where he left off during the 2012 World Off Road Championship Series, winning the opening round of the season in dominating fashion. The reigning champion finished the two-hour race over a minute ahead of the runner-up finisher and carries the points lead into the second round next month. Tomac Dominates En Route to Fourth 250 Class Win of the Season
DELMONT, PA – September 1, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Delmont’s Steel City Raceway hosted the penultimate round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, on Saturday with its annual Labor Day Weekend stop in Western Pennsylvania. Just a couple weeks removed from capturing his second career 450 Class title, Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey, of Belle Plaine, Minn., raced to his ninth straight overall victory of the season with another impressive sweep of the motos. In the 250 Class, GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac, of Cortez, Colo., captured his fourth overall win with a dominant 1-1 outing that tightened the championship heading into the final round of the season.
Dungey had to fight for his ninth straight victory. (Courtesy Steve Giberson)
Dungey began the afternoon with a dominant effort in the opening moto. The KTM rider took the lead out of the first corner and never looked back, leading all 15 laps and winning by over 31 seconds to put himself in position to capture the overall.
In the second moto, Dungey had to climb his way through the field from outside the top five. At the conclusion of the opening lap, he had moved into fourth and slowly began picking off his rivals. Out front, MotoConcepts Suzuki’s Mike Alessi, of Victorville, Calif., opened up a comfortable margin as rain started to fall.
On Lap 3, Dungey moved into second, with the rain helping close the gap between him and Alessi. As the weather cleared, the battle for the lead ensued. Alessi fended off Dungey’s advances for several laps, even forcing a small bobble by the KTM rider, but on Lap 10, Dungey made the pass and led for the final four laps to secure the win.
Dungey (center) was joined by Mike Alessi (left) and Josh Grant (right) on the podium. (Courtesy Steve Giberson)
“It was nice to come out of here with a win today, this place has been good to me in the past (in the 250 Class),” said Dungey, who won for the first time at Steel City Raceway in the premier division and also moves into sole possession of third on the 450 Class all-time wins list with 23 victories. “There were some good line choices. The second moto got a little slippery when that rain came, but I put in good laps and limited the mistakes. Luckily, I just went off the track a bit (with the bobble) and didn’t lose too much ground. I want to continue (winning) with these last two races. They mean just as much as the 10 before.”
Alessi finished second (3-2), while Jeff Ward Racing Kawasaki’s Josh Grant, of Riverside, Calif., captured his team’s first podium in third (4-4).
Tomac was fast all day at Steel City, from practice to the motos. (Courtesy Steve Giberson)
In the 250 Class, Tomac left little doubt that he would be the rider to beat on Saturday. After posting the fastest practice lap of either class earlier in the day, Tomac carried the momentum into the motos. In Moto 1, points leader Blake Baggett, of Grand Terrace, Calif., grabbed the holeshot aboard his Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki, but was passed shortly thereafter by GEICO Honda’s Justin Barcia, of Monroe, N.Y.
Once out front, Barcia established a solid lead. Tomac worked his way into second by Lap 3, following a fourth-place start, and set his sights on his teammate. The Honda duo set the pace of the moto for the next 10 laps, engaging in a see-saw battle. Tomac gained an advantage on Lap 12 and made the pass stick, closing out the final three laps.
In Moto 2, Tomac positioned himself into the lead early, capitalizing on a good start and leading all 13 laps without any pressure from his rivals. He crossed the line with 10-seconds over field to secure the victory.
“It was the best day I could ask for,” said Tomac, who moved into second in the 250 Class standings following his performance. “I came and did what I needed to do, and now I’m within a moto of the points lead. Justin (Barcia) and I definitely got close out there (in the first moto), but we are just trying to chase Blake (Baggett) right now, so there isn’t a lot of tension between us. I’ve gotten good starts (recently), and I think these are the best starts I’ve had all season. I think that’s what the difference was today. I’m one of those guys that likes to get out front early and set that pace.”
Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen, of Germany, finished in the runner-up spot (3-2), while Barcia, who fell to third in the championship standings, rounded out the podium (2-3).
Baggett’s fourth place finish (4-4) helped him maintain control of the standings heading into next weekend’s final round, holding a 14-point lead over Tomac and 18 points over Barcia. This trio along with Roczen, who sits 45 points out of the points lead, enters the final round with a mathematical shot at the title.

“I’ve had a great time riding Motocross this season,” said Windham. “It’s been so much fun, I’m going to race at least a few more rounds. The fans have played a big role in my decision. The crowd support at each race has been kind of overwhelming. I can hear them cheering me on all around the track and so many people come by the transporter to see me and talk with me that I’m just amazed. I’m really enjoying the racing and everything else at the track, and I feel like I have good momentum going into Colorado after finishing just shy of the podium last weekend at Budds Creek.”
American Honda Racing Team Manager Erik Kehoe supports Windham’s decision to continue racing Motocross. “It’s great to see Kevin having so much fun racing,” said Kehoe. “He loves interacting with fans and the fans love coming to see him and talk with him. He’s got an incredible fan base all around the country. And even though he’s concentrated on riding Supercross only for the past several years, Kevin has put in a number of impressive outdoor rides in 2011. It’s been a good run, and I’m excited to see how all this plays out.”

TORRANCE, CA – June 20, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – American Honda Racing’s Josh Grant will make his return to AMA Motocross racing this weekend at the Budds Creek National in Mechanicsville, MD. Grant underwent knee surgery earlier in the year to repair the injury he sustained earlier in the Supercross series.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back out there and battling with everyone each week,” said Grant. “More than anything, I’m excited to get back on my CRF450R—I love riding my factory Honda and have had very little chance to race it this year. I’m ready to put my injury behind me and record some good results for the team. I haven’t rushed my recovery period; I’ve taken all the time I needed to fully recover. I’m lucky to have such a great group of people around me and to have the American Honda Racing team stick beside me, lending their full support the entire time. It will be great to get back to working with the team every weekend for the rest of the season.”

TORRANCE, CA – April 27, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) -
As the 2011 Supercross Championship enters the home stretch, American Honda is gearing up for an exciting title showdown at the final round in Las Vegas on May, 7. For 37 years Honda has amassed an unparalleled win record in AMA Supercross and Motocross, winning more championships than any other manufacturer, and that record is set to increase as Honda riders vie for the top spots in the Supercross and Supercross Lites East and West Championships.
Honda newcomer TwoTwo Motorsports’ Chad Reed is six points out of the Supercross Championship lead with two rounds remaining. With American Honda Racing’s Trey Canard and Josh Grant both sidelined with injuries, the American Honda team is lending its full support to the TwoTwo Motorsports team as Reed vies for his first title on a Honda CRF450R.
In the Lites championships, CRF250R racers GEICO Honda’s Justin Barcia and Eli Tomac are also preparing to add to Honda’s win record. Barcia has a 20-point lead in the Supercross Lites East Championship with one round remaining, while Tomac is only seven points out of the championship lead in the Supercross Lites West Championship with two rounds remaining.
“The TwoTwo Motorsports team has done an awesome job all season long,” said American Honda Racing Team Manager Erik Kehoe. “Chad has done a great job putting together a highly talented team to support his 2011 racing efforts. We would love to see Chad win the Supercross title in his first season on a Honda. It’s also great to see the GEICO Honda team having such a strong season. Justin and Eli have also had tremendous success this year. We wish all these guys good luck in the final rounds.”
In addition to supporting Honda’s Supercross efforts, the American Honda Racing team’s preparations for the upcoming Motocross Championship are well underway. Both Canard and Grant are focused on making returns to racing early in the Motocross season. Additionally, fan-favorite and Honda racing veteran Kevin Windham will be racing the first few outdoor Motocross Nationals on the American Honda Racing team until Canard and Grant return to the outdoor National circuit. Windham will make his debut at the season-opener Hangtown National alongside American Honda Racing teammate Ashley Fiolek, who will be contesting the Women’s Motocross Association (WMA) Championship.
“The outdoor Nationals are something special,” said Windham. “The speed is not something you find in Supercross, and I’m pumped to be able to race for American Honda. The bike is good and I’m ready. We’ll just have to see what happens.”
“Getting hurt so late in the Supercross season was a bitter pill to swallow,” said Canard. “Especially since I was among the top contenders for the Supercross title. However, I’m doing what I need to do in order to make a full recovery and return to racing early in the Motocross Championship.”
Grant too is on target to make his return early in the season. “Since undergoing knee surgery a few months back, I’ve been receiving therapy on my knee on a daily basis,” explains Grant. “I’ve worked intensely with my doctor and healed fast. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming Motocross season and excited to rejoin the American Honda Racing team as soon as possible.”
Few Supercross championships in history have headed to such an exciting conclusion, so don’t miss the action and make sure to stop by the American Honda Racing transporter located in the paddock.
