KTM Presents 2014 Offroad Models!

21 05 2013

May 21, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – KTM continues to set the benchmark in the development of offroad motorcycles with the presentation of its Model Year 2014 range. A stand-out example of the company’s dedication to ongoing research and development is the star attraction in the Enduro range, the brand new 250 EXC-F, featuring a completely new engine based on the very successful 350 EXC-F.

The Austrian manufacturer has 50 percent of the Enduro market share but its dedication to R&D was evident right across the new models as it continues to deliver the best in terms of performance, ride-ability and reliability. The star attraction KTM 250 EXC-F also features many improvements over last year’s model, including an all new high tech race proven engine.

Cutting-edge developments in Enduro and Motocross bikes were presented to 70 journalists from 19 countries, including from as far afield as Australia, Japan, Israel and Malaysia on the Italian island of Sardinia, location for the much-awaited 2013 International Six days Enduro. And as KTM and its factory riders continue to dominate many of the world’s most prestigious motocross competitions, the presence of Tony Cairoli, Ken de Dycker, Jeffrey Herlings and Jordi Tixier of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team added to the media interest.

By choosing Sardinia for the launch KTM pays tribute to the centenary edition of the International Six Days Enduro by presenting the limited edition, KTM Six Days models, complete with Sardinian flag and colors. The ISDE, the oldest offroad event on the International Motorcycle Federation’s (FIM’s) calendar will be held in Sardinia from September 30 to October 9, 2013.

KTM’s 2014 MY Offroad range starts with the three sport minicycles, the 50 SX, 65 SX and 85 SX, the starter bikes for tomorrow’s factory rider heroes. The Enduro lineup offers eight different models: the 125 EXC, 200 EXCc, 250 EXC and 300 EXC two-stroke bikes and the 250 EXC-F, 350 EXC-F, 450 EXC and 500 EXC in four-stroke. The limited edition Six Days is available in all models except the 200 cc and features special graphics dedicated to the Sardinia 2013 ISDE. The 2014 MY offer is crowned by KTM’s title-winning Motocross range of bikes in six models: 125 SX, 150 SX and 250 SX two-stroke and 250 SX-F, 350 SX-F and 450 SX-F four-stroke bikes.

Model upgrades continue to set industry standards in Enduro and Motocross
Comprehensive improvements to the MY 2014 range include, for the 250 EXC-F, a new frame and suspension setting, both identical to the 350 EXC-F model; new intake snorkel to increase power, header pipe and silencer, enlarged intake valves, new camshafts, new cylinder with larger bore and new piston, new crankshaft with shortened stroke, new crankcase design and new clutch DDS.

Improved new features for the 2014 Enduro model range include: Lighter frame for the four-stroke models; new lower triple clamp; new engine, ECU, and exhaust system for the 250 EXC-F; revised bodywork; new graphics and color; new headlight.

New features for the Motocross range include: For the 250 SX-F – new gear box with five instead of six gears to achieve a better ration and reduce weight by 250 grams; newly designed water pump cover with new gasket (also for the 350 SX-F); optimized starter freewheel assembly for better durability and reliability; new Brembo master clutch cylinder (also for the 350 SX-F) and revised wire harness. In addition, all motocross models feature a new Brembo front brake, revised chain guide, re-tuned suspensions, bodyworks, a new fuel tank and ergonomics.

Improvement to the 450 SX-F include: new exhaust system, new three layer head gasket, lighter camshaft and a crank case with the kick starter dome removed to reduce weight by 300 grams. Major improvements have also been made to the 250 SX-F two-stroke bikes.

KTM’s Model Year 2014 Offroad range will be available from June 2013 at KTM dealerships.

New Products from AXO

21 05 2013

SANTA CLARITA, CA – May 21, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) -

Airflow jacket: AXO’s new Airflow jacket is designed to keep riders cool when they 130521-Airflow-Jackethit the road while offering unmatched safety and comfort. The key is the surplus of mesh on the jacket, there is mesh polyester on the front, inner sleeves and back as well as a mesh lining. The Airflow has CE approved removable shoulder and elbow cups, a pocket for a back protector, reflective inserts and high tenacity polyester on high impact areas. Additionally, the jacket has sleeve and waist adjustments to help achieve the perfect fit.

The Airflow is now available in S-XXXL and suggested retail price is $150.

Pro Race XT Gloves: AXO’s Pro Race XT glove is the successor of the very successful Pro Race and offers everything a rider would want including a great low price. 130521-Pro-Race-XT-Gloves

Technically the Pro Race XT is a racing gloves, but it’s also great for a casual weekend ride thanks to the short cuff structure. New and improved features of the XT are a reflective logo, a two piece knuckle protector and more ventilation throughout the glove. There is perforated leather on the back of the glove and fingers as well as additional ventilation at the top of the glove and fingers. The added perforation and ventilation plays a big role in keeping riders hands cool and dry on hot days as well as allowing for a better fit and more freedom of movement for the hand.

The Pro Race XT glove is currently available in sizes S-XXXL and suggested retail price is $55.

2013 Trans-Am Motocross Gear: AXO introduces the new 3013 Trans-Am gear, now available in black and white color ways. The Trans-Am gear is part of a larger line that includes the Norstar boots and Trans-Am gloves, all of which are inspired from AXO’s look in the late 1970’s. Although the gear looks like it’s from the 70’s, the materials, construction and technology are top of the line for today.

130521-Trans-Am-MX-GearFrom far off the black and white sets of gear appear to be the same, however with a closer look you will see many differences. The white set of Trans-Am gear is fully vented. The entire jersey is a mesh material to provide optimal ventilation for hot riding days. The pants also feature additional ventilation in the front and back of the upper leg and at the shin by having perforated panels.

The jersey is designed to fit either over or under a roost guard all while providing unrestricted freedom of movement. The 100% Poly construction of the jersey makes it both stain and odor resistant as well as completely machine washable.  The jersey also features a longer tail panel which helps to keep it tucked in.

The Trans-Am pants have the features and construction that was once reserved for only the most expensive pants. The materials have been improved to allow for a better fit, longer wear and to reduce the weight. By combining 600 denier Nylon thigh panels with punched Nylon blended thigh and crotch panels the shell of the Trans-Am are comfortable and supportive. 130521-Trans-Am-MX-Gear-2Unique stretch panels wrap the upper thigh and waist as well as the inner thigh allowing a fully flexible upper and lower panel design. AXO’s own Slip Fitting knee and thigh pattern suspends the thigh from the knee allowing the knee panel to operate independently from the leg of the pant. The Slip Fit design feature helps keep the pants securely on the waist. The pants also have side waist adjustment tabs to help keep the pants from sliding off the waist. A vented thigh TPR panel allows air to circulate up the Slip Fit and exit through the venting to help keep riders cool on hot days. The inner knee panels of the pants have leather to reduce heat and protect the pants from additional wear and abrasion. An endless cuff is featured on the bottom of the pants which is slimmer and thinner so a snug boot will not cause discomfort. Up top the closure duties are taken care by using a molded TPR zipper cover and super strength Poly zipper cut a bit longer to help with putting on the pants. A large knee to calf stretch panel adds comfort and stretch to the calf reducing chafing. A smooth tricot liner stops at the knee so as not to interfere with braces and cups. The Trans-Am pants are completely machine washable.

The Trans-Am jersey is currently available in S-XXL and the pants in sizes 28-40 in white and 28-44 in black. Suggested retail price for the jersey is $48 and $138 for the pants.

If you have any questions or would like further information about these products or any AXO products please contact us at 661-257-0916 or via email at info@axo.com

The Aviator 2.1 D.O.T. line of off-road helmets will be the first Airoh model available from LeoVince USA, followed by additional styles in the coming months.

As with all of the products they distribute, LeoVince USA only selects manufacturers who exhibit top-level quality and a homegrown, personal touch. Airoh is no different. Airoh may be a new name to many U.S. riders, but they are already a well-respected brand in pro racing and hold the title as the top offroad brand throughout Europe. Annual Sales of Electric Motorcycles and Scooters in North America Will Multiply Nearly Ten-Fold by 2018, Forecasts Navigant Research

17 05 2013

BOULDER, CO – May 17, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – The vast majority of electric motorcycles and scooters sold worldwide are sold in China. To date, little demand for these vehicles has existed outside Asia Pacific, with the exception of a few Western European countries such as Germany and Spain. According to a recent report from Navigant Research, that will begin to change in the next several years: sales of e-motorcycles and e-scooters in North America will grow from a little more than 4,000 in 2012 to more than 36,000 in 2018, a nearly ten-fold expansion, the study concludes.

“The market for e-motorcycles and e-scooters will grow as manufacturers provide more robust features, including longer range capability, better performance, and in the case of e-motorcycles, higher speeds,” says Dave Hurst, principal research analyst with Navigant Research. “The North American market is still very much in its infancy, but the United States will see strong growth, with a compound annual growth rate of greater than 50 percent through 2018.”

In Asia Pacific, scooters and low-powered motorcycles are widely used as everyday transportation. In North America, by contrast, motorcycles and scooters (including e-motorcycles and e-scooters) are more likely to be used for recreation than as a primary form of transportation. The interest in higher-powered and touring motorcycles is higher in North America than other regions, and so e-motorcycles and e-scooters are often purchased as complements to other forms of transportation.

The report, “Electric Motorcycles and Scooters”, provides a comprehensive examination of the market drivers and barriers, technology issues, governmental incentives and regulations, and key drivers of growth in the e-motorcycles and e-scooters industry. The report includes e-motorcycle and e-scooter sales forecasts through 2018, as well as detailed profiles of key industry players. The report also provides forecasts for lithium ion and lead-acid battery technologies used in e-scooters and e-motorcycles. An Executive Summary of the report is available for free download on the Navigant Research website.

Indian Motorcycle Reveals Pricing as Lead Up to Historic Unveiling of All-New 2014 Indian Chief at Sturgis Rally

15 05 2013

Highly Anticipated Details Make Clear that Authentic, Affordable Choice is Coming to American Motorcycles as Indian Motorcycle Makes its Debut at the World’s Largest Motorcycle Event

MEDINA, MN – May 13, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company, today continued its trip toward the historic unveiling of the completely new 2014 Indian Motorcycle. Following on the heels of the reveal of the all-new Thunder Stroke 111™ engine on March 9 at Daytona Bike Week, Indian Motorcycle, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Polaris Industries, released much anticipated details as it accelerates toward the upcoming launch.

Staying true to its heritage, the revival of the Indian Motorcycle brand will debut with the introduction of the 2014 Indian Chief. First introduced in 1922, the legendary Indian Chief is historically the brand’s most popular selling model and is widely recognized by motorcycling enthusiasts around the world as one of the most iconic motorcycles ever produced. The Indian Chief is the flagship of the brand’s 112-year product lineup, and it has come to proudly represent the spirit of the Indian Motorcycle brand.

“We are honored to make today’s important announcements at this time, as it was roughly 112 years ago that the very first Indian Motorcycle prototype was demonstrated to the press on the streets in Springfield, Massachusetts,” said Vice President of Polaris Motorcycles Steve Menneto. “We’re especially proud to reveal that our inaugural model will be the iconic Indian Chief. Riders around the world will be thrilled to know their choice in American motorcycles will now come in the form of a brand new Indian Chief.”

To view a short video clip in support of today’s announcement or to see a silhouette image of the flagship 2014 Indian Chief, visit the Indian Motorcycle website.

In addition to announcing the first model to come out of the Spirit Lake, Iowa production plant, the all-new 2014 Indian Chief will be available at an MSRP starting at $18,999. Inventory is expected to be available at Indian Motorcycle dealerships throughout North America later this year. Indian Motorcycle dealerships will be opening across the country this summer to accommodate bike demand and service needs.

“When Polaris Industries acquired this brand two years ago, our goal from the outset was to leverage our engineering, manufacturing and operational prowess as a market leader in powersports to design and build a truly exceptional motorcycle that represents the perfect balance of legendary heritage and brilliant, state-of-the-art engineering and technology,” continued Menneto. “All of us at Indian Motorcycle are very proud to offer the 2014 Indian Chief at a starting price of $18,999. We set out to make the power and heritage of this beautiful new bike available at a price point that is competitive and more accessible to people who are looking for authenticity and choice in American motorcycles.”

The new Indian Chief will be revealed at the 73rd annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota, which runs August 3-11, 2013. Specific details on the launch timing will be announced this summer. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the world’s largest motorcycle rally, was started in 1936 by an Indian Motorcycle club, the famed Jackpine Gypsies. Indian Motorcycle is proud to reclaim that heritage and share the historic reveal of the 2014 Indian Chief with the rider community at the 2013 Sturgis Rally.

We are seeing signs of an economic turnaround and it is critical that all constituents in the powersports industry find ways to capitalize on this recovery. There are many pressures on our industry – from land closure to unfavorable laws from both the state and federal level – that will have negative consequences. MIC has recently created the opportunity for powersports dealers to become MIC members. It is important that all interested parties come together with a stronger, united voice to make sure the powersports industry is represented. The Aftermarket Committee will continue to play a key role in initiating and supporting these efforts.

“I want to thank Frank Esposito for his leadership of the Aftermarket Committee,” continued Johnson. “Frank has always been a passionate, creative and articulate voice in the Aftermarket Committee. I also want to thank MIC President Tim Buche for his outstanding leadership of the MIC.”

Added Esposito, president of Kendon Industries, Inc.: “I am very grateful to everyone who supported me during my time as chair of the MIC’s Aftermarket Committee. I’m pleased with and proud of the accomplishments and diligence shown by the committee and the membership task force over the last 10 years. But change is healthy; it keeps us fresh and challenges the status quo. Now is the right time for change and so the time has come to rotate from the chair. I believe that Steve is the ideal next candidate. His industry experience and commitment to the aftermarket will prove invaluable as he takes over as chair. I look forward to working with him in this new capacity and also to continuing to serve as an active member of the committee.”

The Motorcycle Industry Council exists to preserve, protect and promote motorcycling through government relations, communications and media relations, statistics and research, aftermarket programs, development of data communications standards, and activities surrounding technical and regulatory issues. As a not-for-profit, national industry association, the MIC seeks to support motorcyclists by representing manufacturers, distributors, dealers and retailers of motorcycles, scooters, ATVs, ROVs, motorcycle/ATV/ROV parts, accessories and related goods and services, and members of allied trades such as insurance, finance and investment companies, media companies and consultants.

The MIC is headquartered in Irvine, Calif., with a government relations office in metropolitan Washington, D.C. First called the MIC in 1970, the organization has been in operation since 1914. Visit the MIC at www.mic.org.
