Suzuki Announces 2014 RM-Z Motorcycles

15 06 2013

BREA, CA – June 15, 2013- (Motor Sports Newswire) - Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (SMAI) continues its introduction of 2014 vehicles by announcing the 2014 RM-Z450 and RM-Z250. The company recently announced the expansion of the Suzuki Boulevard cruiser line.

2014 RM-Z450

2014 Suzuki RM-Z450

For 2014, the Suzuki RM-Z450 and RM-Z250 feature updated ECM ignition programs that improve starting, as well as race-inspired Champion Yellow-and-black graphics to best fit each bike’s high-performance character. These upgrades show Suzuki’s continued commitment to the already-strong performance of its RM-Z450 and RM-Z250, facts proven in part by Cycle World magazine’s repeat acknowledgement of the RM-Z450 as Best Motocrosser in 2011 and 2012. And in 2013, both the RM-Z450 and RM-Z250 was chosen by Transworld MX as their bikes of the year. The RM-Z450 was also selected as the class-leader by RacerX.

“By delivering these refinements for 2014, the Suzuki RM-Z450 and RM-Z250 will continue to lead their classes,” said Derek Schoeberle, Product Media Relations Manager for SMAI. “These products are proof that manufacturing and selling category-leading motorcycles takes more than just one year. A combination of superior development, proven craftsmanship, and ongoing owner support helps Suzuki, its dealers and its riders earn multiple championships.”

2014 Suzuki RM-Z250

The 2014 RM-Z450 and RM-Z250 retain the “Champion Approved” features and performance that have lead racers nationwide to select yellow motorcycles as their racing equipment. For years, top racers have chosen to ride Suzuki, including Yoshimura Suzuki rider James Stewart and Ricky Carmichael, whose RCH Racing team competes on Suzuki RM-Zs.

With endorsements like that, Suzuki proves that choosing an RM-Z is the best decision a racer can make. Amateur and pro racers nationwide are increasingly opting for Suzuki RM-Z motorcycles; both the RM-Z450 and RM-Z250 continue to increase their share of race entries each of the last four years. Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. will soon announce its detailed race-support offerings for the coming season.

Suzuki pioneered MX fuel-injection with the 2007 RM-Z450, and it quickly became the first fuel-injected motorcycle to win the AMA SX Championship. Suzuki motocross bikes are renowned for superior on-track handling, as well as the company’s industry-leading race support. By offering more contingency-reward money than any other manufacturer, and giving racers bikes that help them win, Suzuki will remain the right choice for motocross racers, whether that’s Ricky Carmichael or the young rider who is striving to be the best.

The 2014 RM-Z450 and RM-Z250 are expected to begin arrive in dealership in July.

ATV Safety Institute Encourages Responsible Riding While Enjoying Memorial Day Weekend

23 05 2013

Upcoming Holiday Weekend an Ideal Time for ASI Safety Courses

IRVINE, CA – May 23, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – As more than 35 million ATV enthusiasts take to the trails this Memorial Day weekend, the ATV Safety Institute and the major manufacturers and distributors of ATVs encourage everyone to ride safely and responsibly. The ASI estimates that nearly 11 million ATVs will be ridden over the long holiday weekend, and urges enthusiasts to minimize their risk and increase their fun factor by taking the ASI’s hands-on ATV RiderCourse and interactive E-Course. Both are designed to help enthusiasts better understand how to safely operate their ATVs.

“Now that the summer riding season is upon us, enthusiasts everywhere can brush up on safety tips with the ASI’s half-day, hands-on ATV RiderCourse,” said Tim Buche, president and CEO of the ATV Safety Institute. “It’s free if you’ve purchased a new, qualifying ATV from an ASI member-company and most major ATV manufacturers offer incentives for completing the course in the form of cash or gift cards worth up to $100. ASI encourages all enthusiasts to be safety-conscious whenever they ride, but especially on a busy holiday weekend like Memorial Day.”

To find an ATV RiderCourse near you and enroll, visit http://www.atvsafety.org. In addition to learning safe riding skills on the range, riders can also brush up on ATV safety principles online with the ATV E-Course, also available at http://www.atvsafety.org. Three age-specific online courses are available: one for adults, another for teens, and one specifically aimed at children. All the courses include videos and interactive games to make them fun and effective learning experiences for every age group.

According to data from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, 92 percent of all ATV-related fatalities are the result of warned-against behaviors, such as youths riding adult-sized ATVs. Therefore, the ASI strongly recommends that all ATV riders follow the warning labels on each vehicle. Finally, all ATV enthusiasts, no matter their age or experience level, can further minimize their risk by simply adhering to the ASI’s Eight Golden Rules of ATV Safety:

  1. Always wear a DOT-compliant helmet, goggles, long sleeves, long pants, over-the-ankle boots, and gloves.
  2. Never ride on paved roads except to cross when done safely and permitted by law – another vehicle could hit you. ATVs are designed to be operated off-highway.
  3. Never ride under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
  4. Never carry a passenger on a single-rider ATV, and no more than one passenger on an ATV specifically designed for two people.
  5. Ride an ATV that’s right for your age.
  6. Supervise riders younger than 16; ATVs are not toys.
  7. Ride only on designated trails and at a safe speed.
  8. Take a hands-on ATV RiderCourseSM and the free online E-Course. Call toll-free at (800) 887-2887 or go to www.atvsafety.org to register.

The All-Terrain Vehicle Safety Institute® develops rider training programs and promotes the safe and responsible use of ATVs. Third Motorcycle Safety Foundation iBook Targets Prospective Motorcyclists, Their Friends and Families

23 05 2013

MSF’s “Rider Choices” Now Available on iTunes

IRVINE, CA – May 23, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) -  The Motorcycle Safety Foundation has launched its third iBook on Apple’s iTunes as part of an ongoing effort to promote motorcyclist safety on the roadways to a broader riding and non-riding audience.

Rider_Choices_Cover.225x225-75Released exclusively for iPads, “Rider Choices” specifically addresses the questions and concerns of prospective motorcyclists, their families and friends. The interactive 32-page “Rider Choices” iBook is priced at just 99 cents.

“At MSF, we believe ‘Rider Choices’ is the smartest way to consider motorcycling or to help someone else consider riding,” said Tim Buche, MSF president and chief executive officer. “We created an iBook that serves as an effective discussion tool to help a friend or family member have a serious conversation with a prospective motorcycle rider about the best next steps to take. It’s our greatest hope that ‘Rider Choices’ stimulates meaningful discussions that lead to informed decisions about whether to ride.”

Filled with visually appealing graphics, videos and interactive content, “Rider Choices” speaks candidly to risk management principles and the importance of training, motorist awareness, personal protective gear and more. Perhaps its most innovative feature is the “Contract for Safety,” which affirms that the prospective motorcyclist understands that family and friends may be concerned about their safety, and serves as their tangible commitment to riding safely and to minimize risk.

Because “Rider Choices” was created with the iBooks Author application, its content is completely interactive and syncs with other devices. It follows the recently released MSF iBook, “Intersection: Sharing the Road” and prior to that, “Intersection: Leader’s Guide.” MSF will continue its practice of making many of its programs, conferences, lectures, and other motorcyclist safety content available for download.

“Each of us must do our part in making good decisions on the road so we can eliminate motorcycle crashes, injuries and fatalities. Every roadway user needs to be a trained, alert and active participant in the traffic mix,” said Buche.

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation® promotes safety through rider training and education, operator licensing tests and public information programs. The MSF works with the federal government, state agencies, the military and others to offer training for all skill levels so riders can enjoy a lifetime of safe, responsible motorcycling. Standards established by the MSF® have been recognized worldwide since 1973.

Suzuki launches new motorcycle SHOOTER in Indonesia

9 05 2013

INDONESIA, – May 9, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) -

Suzuki Motor Corporation’s subsidiary in Indonesia, PT. Suzuki Indomobil Motor has launched a new 113cm3 motorcycle SHOOTER on 4 May, 2013.

Suzuki Shooter

SHOOTER has an excellent fuel mileage improved by approximately 30% compared to the same type of model in Suzuki’s 110cm3 class. This was achieved by developing an all-new 113cm3 engine based on extensive research on the use condition of Indonesia and adopting a fuel injection, its first use in its class*. The engine has reduced friction loss by adopting parts such as the lighter piston and the smaller crankshaft, as well as improved combustion efficiency by reviewing the intake and the exhaust system. As a result, in addition to improved fuel mileage, it has achieved improved output character.

Also, it has realized high performance due to the lighter chassis based on the concept of easier handling, while maintaining high strength. In addition, it has improved its usability by adopting useful equipments such as the under seat storage space and the larger headlight.

By launching SHOOTER to the class for the entry users, Suzuki will seek to expand its lineup and sales.

*Based on Suzuki research in May 2013 on standard underbone class (110~115cm3).

Suzuki announces Financial Results for Fiscal Year 2012

9 05 2013

May 9, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) -

(Fiscal Year running April 2012 to March 2013)

  •   Increased sales for the first time in two fiscal years
  •   Increased profit for four consecutive fiscal years
  •   Highest ever net income
  •   Year-end dividends scheduled to be up by ¥2.00 per share ($.02 USD)

1. Outline of Operating Results for FY2012 (April 2012 to March 2013)

In this fiscal year (April 2012 to March 2013), the Japanese domestic net sales exceeded ¥1 trillion for the first time, which increased by ¥54.1 billion (5.5%) to ¥1,040.9 billion compared to the previous fiscal year. As for the overseas, the net sales increased by ¥12.0 billion (0.8%) to ¥1,537.4 billion year-on-year by covering the impact of the exchange conversion due to the yen appreciation, and the economic stagnation in Europe, such as with the increase of automobile sales in Asia. As a result, the consolidated net sales of the FY2012 (April 2012 to March 2013) increased by ¥66.1 billion (2.6%) to ¥2,578.3 billion year-on-year.

In terms of the consolidated income, the operating income increased by ¥25.3 billion (21.2%) to ¥144.6 billion year-on-year, and the ordinary income increased by ¥25.0 billion (19.2%) to ¥155.6 billion year-on-year. The Group was able to increase the operating income by covering the factors of income decrease such as the sales decrease in Europe and the impact of the exchange rate, with the factors of income increase such as the increase of automobile sales in Japan and Asia, and cost reduction. Net income became the highest ever, which increased by ¥26.5 billion (49.2%) to ¥80.4 billion year-on-year. Although there was loss on liquidation of subsidiaries and affiliates in connection with the winding down of automobile marketing business in the U.S., the Group was able to increase the net income by covering the loss.

The year-end dividends is scheduled to be up by ¥2.00 per share from the previous forecasts to ¥10.00 per share (previous year-end dividends was ¥8.00 per share). As a result, the annual dividends will be ¥18.00 per share, up by ¥3.00 per share from the previous fiscal year.

2. The Operating Results by Segment

In the automobile business, the Japanese domestic net sales increased year-on-year as a result of expanding its sales and strengthening the products such as by the launch of the new WagonR and Spacia. As for the overseas, the net sales increased year-on-year by covering the sales decrease in Europe and the impact of the exchange conversion due to the yen appreciation, with the sales increase in Asia. As a result, the overall net sales of the automobile business increased by ¥88.8 billion (4.0%) to ¥2,297.8 billion year-on-year. Operating income increased by ¥36.1 billion (31.5%) to ¥150.6 billion year-on-year, mainly due to the increase of income in India, Indonesia, and the Japanese domestic automobile business.

In the motorcycle business, the net sales decreased by ¥24.5 billion (9.6%) to ¥230.3 billion year-on-year, mainly due to the sales decrease in Europe and Asia. As for the operating income, the operating loss of ¥2.4 billion in the previous fiscal year became an operating loss of ¥11.9 billion.

In the marine and power products, etc. business, the net sales increased by ¥1.8 billion (3.6%) to ¥50.2 billion year-on-year. Operating income decreased by ¥1.3 billion (17.7%) to ¥5.9 billion year-on-year.

As for the operating results by geographical areas, Japan and Asia increased sales and income due to the increase of automobile sales. Although exports to areas such as Europe decreased, operating income in Japan became the highest ever, mainly due to the increase of the Japanese domestic automobile sales, and cost reduction. As for Europe, where the economic stagnation continues, although the fourth quarter (January to March 2013) turned into the black, the full year became an operating loss because the operating loss of the first three quarters (April to December 2012) could not be recovered.

3. Forecasts for the Consolidated Operation of the Next Fiscal Year

As for the next fiscal year, while the exchange environment is improving and the sales in the growing markets such as India and ASEAN are increasing, increase of depreciation and research and development expenses due to increased investments to support those growths would be expected. But the Group will work as one to reform in every field to accomplish more than the below forecasts for the consolidated operation by developing the business activity.

(Forecasts for the consolidated operating results-Full Year)
Net Sales ¥2,800.0 billion (up 8.6% year-on-year)

Motorcycle Safety Foundation Programs Dedicated to Eliminating Motorcyclist Crashes, Injuries and Fatalities

25 04 2013

New Report Supports Need for More Research, Rider Training and Driver Awareness Initiatives to Increase Motorcyclist Safety

IRVINE, CA – April 25, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – In response to a preliminary report released today by the Governors Highway Safety Association that indicates motorcyclist deaths are projected to increase in 2012, Tim Buche, president and chief executive officer of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, said, “The numbers released today are a somber reminder that motorcyclist safety should be everyone’s responsibility. Each of us must do our part in making good decisions on the road so we can eliminate these needless and tragic motorcycle fatalities. Every roadway user needs to be a trained, alert, and active participant in the traffic mix.”

For its part, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation continues its leadership role in initiating and enhancing programs dedicated to the goal of eliminating motorcyclist crashes, injuries and fatalities.

Rider Education & Training System
The MSF has invested $2.4 million since 2010 in research initiatives that support ongoing curriculum development and quality assurance programs for its world-renowned Rider Education & Training System and Basic RiderCourseSM motorcyclist training program.

“We continue to increase our understanding of rider and other roadway user behaviors to direct improvements in our curricula that lead to improved student outcomes and a safer riding environment overall,” said Dr. Ray Ochs, vice president of training systems for MSF. “We’ve just completed a significant update to our most popular course, the Basic RiderCourse, with new classroom content focused on rider behavior, risk awareness and risk management. And, we’ve added new range exercises that focus on earlier acquisition of fundamental skills with an emphasis on the traffic situations that students will encounter on the road.”

The enhancements to the Basic RiderCourse include:

  • Approximately 40 percent increase in content on rider perception and seeking escape paths
  • Approximately 15 percent increase in practice time for swerving and other collision-avoidance skills
  • Approximately 30 percent more classroom and range content on negotiating curves and cornering skills
  • Addition of an eCourse to reach even more current and prospective motorcyclists with the basic cognitive aspects of rider education

MSF and its partners have trained more than 6.7 million new or returning motorcyclists since it began rider training education in 1974.

Intersection_-_Sharing_The_Road_Cover_Image.225x225-75iBooks: “Intersection” and “Rider Choices”
For those who have motorcyclists in their lives but are not riders themselves, MSF has expanded its distribution of motorcyclist safety educational materials online, with its recently published iBooks.

Intersection
Intersection: Sharing the Road” aims to increase awareness of motorcyclists and scooters on the roadway with a unique message to drivers, commercial drivers, and others.

“Rider Choices”
Rider_Choices_Cover.225x225-75Rider Choices” is an interactive discussion tool to help a friend or family member have a serious conversation with a prospective motorcycle rider about a safe way forward. Both are available on iTunes.

Motorist Awareness and Research
The MSF also promotes safety awareness initiatives aimed at other motorists via www.forcardrivers.com. This targeted website provides safety tips, video instruction, and other resources for companies, individuals who drive a truck for a living, or just a concerned driver.

Engaging in its own research effort, the MSF recently partnered with the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute on the innovative MSF 100 Motorcyclists Naturalistic Study. Video cameras and data acquisition sensors are being used to track the actions of 100 riders over the course a year to create a comprehensive assessment of the many factors contributing to both crashes and near-crashes. MSF seeks to use the results to improve its curricula and expand its other safety countermeasures.

National Motorcycle Safety Fund
Companies, clubs and individuals wishing to donate directly to motorcyclist safety initiatives can contact the National Motorcycle Safety Fund (NMSF), a charitable organization established in 1980 to augment the work of the MSF. The NMSF accepts tax-deductible contributions and applies them to motorcycle safety projects. In the past, the NMSF has provided helmets and alcohol awareness materials to training sites for use by beginning riders during the MSF Basic RiderCourse. NMSF is currently supporting the MSF 100 Motorcyclists Naturalistic Study. One hundred percent of contributions is dedicated to the National Motorcycle Safety Fund – none of the funds is used to cover administration costs. Visit msf-usa.org and click on “Donate” for more information.

Villopoto Dominant in Houston, Wins Eighth Monster Energy Supercross Race of the Season

7 04 2013

Wharton Wins His First 250SX Class Race of the Year

HOUSTON, TXApril 6, 2013 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Inside Reliant Stadium, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto won his fifth consecutive Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, race in front of 49,438 fans. Rockstar Energy Racing’s Blake Wharton won his first Eastern Regional 250SX Class Main Event of the year.

In the 450SX Class Main Event, MCR’s Mike Alessi won the Nuclear Cowboyz® Holeshot Award as Villopoto, Team Muscle Milk Honda’s Justin Barcia and Trey Canard followed him through turn one in second and third, respectively.

Villopoto gained the lead on the opening lap, and after five laps, Canard, Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey and Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart held down the second, third and fourth positions. Dungey passed Canard for second place on Lap 7, and on the same lap, Stewart took over third place.

While challenging Dungey for second place, Stewart crashed on Lap 10 before the finish-line jump. Dungey finished second and Canard third in his first race back since an injury sidelined him for a race.

Tonight’s race marked Villopoto’s second-consecutive win at Reliant Stadium and he extended his points lead to 21.

“It was tough out there tonight,” said Villopoto. “The track was breaking down out there, and there were several variables that we had to deal with. You had to move quickly out there tonight, and that is what I did in the early part of the race. I wanted to establish a lead before the lapped riders would begin to play a factor in the race.”

Zack Freeberg opened the Eastern Regional 250SX Class Main Event with the Nuclear Cowboyz Holeshot Award but was quickly passed by Wharton and Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin, the winner of the last three races. Musquin made a move around Wharton on the opening lap.

On Lap 1, Wharton answered back, passing Musquin for the lead. Musquin ran into bad luck when he crashed on Lap 5 and lost several places. GIECO Honda’s Wil Hahn, who came into tonight’s race as the points leader, took over the number-two position and gave chase to Wharton but several mistakes kept him making the pass. Hahn finished second and extended his points lead to eight with two races remaining.

“It’s important to be aggressive out there,” said Wharton. “I had a great start and it was pretty intense during get first few laps, but I was able to give myself a nice cushion until Wil [Hahn] pressured me at the end.”

After re-entering the race, Musquin worked his way through the field, eventually securing third place, where he finished.

Three-time AMSOIL Arenacross Champion Tyler Bowers finished a career-best fourth place in his debut ride for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team.

Racing resumes next Saturday, April 13 at Minneapolis’ Metrodome.
