Motorcycle Mechanics Institute Expands Supercross Intern Program with Chapparal Honda L&Mc Racing

15 12 2012

Team owners, Jeremy McGrath and Larry Brooks, build on long-standing relationship with MMI

SCOTTSDALE, AZ – December 14, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI), the leading provider of motorcycle technical education training, is proud to announce Chapparal Honda L&Mc Racing as its 2013 MMI Supercross Intern Program partner. L&Mc Racing, owned by Supercross champion, Jeremy McGrath and well-known team manager, Larry Brooks , joins as the fourth team to work with MMI’s Intern Program.

“We’ve hired MMI grads in the past, and while we know what they are capable of, we also know how hard it is to break into this industry,” said Brooks. “This program is about opening up as many doors as we can for MMI graduates, and giving back to the industry that gave so much to us.”

Beginning in 2013, the intern program will give MMI graduates the opportunity to spend a race weekend with a professional Supercross team to see firsthand the inner workings of a race team.  The interns will partner with the teams’ technicians and get a chance to work on race bikes.

“The volunteer intern program was created with the idea of providing an in-road for MMI graduates to the race industry,” said Jocelyn Omen, enthusiast segment manager for MMI. “The chance to bring the program to such a well-respected team that already employs three MMI graduates was something we jumped on. Five MMI graduates were employed last year through the program and our partner, BTO.com/BBMX, and we hope to continue that success with Chaparral Honda.”

MMI has had a long-standing relationship with Jeremy McGrath through the MMI/Jeremy McGrath Scholarship that began in 2004. The scholarship provides $20,000 in scholarship money to three lucky recipients, to be used at the MMI training facilities located in Orlando, Fla. and Phoenix, Ariz.

Those interested in applying for the 2013 MMI/ Jeremy McGrath scholarship may enter by uploading a video of why they deserve the scholarship to
http://www.youtube.com/McGrathscholarship
. Entrants are encouraged to be creative in their video submissions through song, dance, comedy, etc. Deadline for entries is April 19, 2013.

Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki provide product and curriculum for students

PHOENIX, AZ – April 5, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) -  Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI) has recently added a significant amount of training aids to its manufacturer-specific training programs. Harley-Davidson® and Kawasaki Motors have contributed more than 300 motorsports units to the MMI Phoenix and Orlando campuses, which students will work on directly in the labs.

Harley-Davidson donated more than 65 H-D motorcycles and more than 200 H-D engines to MMI in late 2011. Harley-Davidson and MMI also collaborated to develop hands-on training that is in alignment with Harley-Davidson University® PHD training and will help prepare the students for entry-level positions at Harley-Davidson dealership service departments.  The Harley-Davidson PHD Program is a system specifically designed by the factory to keep professional dealership technicians current with the latest technology and service procedures. The large donation of bikes and engines will be placed into service training within the Harley-Davison Elective at both MMI campuses.

In addition, Kawasaki Motors recently donated 35 units consisting of motorcycles, ATVs, mules and watercraft.  These will be used in the Kawasaki sponsored, supported and equipped 12 week K-Tech Specialist Elective training program in Orlando and Phoenix.  With this type of support from Kawasaki, MMI K-Tech graduates will be better prepared for entry-level technician positions as they start their careers at Kawasaki dealerships across the nation.

“These donations showcase the quality of the MMI programs and the professionalism of its graduates,” said Dennis Hendrix, director of national accounts. “The support received from these partners assists MMI in preparing its graduates for entry-level technician positions within each of the specific brands across the nation.”

Burnout: The Ultimate Drag Race Challenge Premieres June 25 at 12:00 p.m.(EDT)

PHOENIX, AZ – June 22, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – As the smell of burning rubber and gasoline fill the air, an engine revs and two cars rocket down the quarter-mile track, racing to the finish – this is Burnout: The Ultimate Drag Race Challenge. Ushering in a new class of reality show, Burnout is a nine-part MTV2 reality series that follows two teams of students and instructors from Universal Technical Institute (UTI) as they battle against each other in a test of skill, persistence and dedication to see who can build the fastest drag car with just 100 hours of build time.

Hosted by drag race legend Clay Millican and freestyle motocross and off-road racer Carey Hart, the action-packed series follows 20 UTI students and four instructors as they participate in challenges and work together to build a drag car from the ground up, all while working feverishly to source parts, keep up on schoolwork and maintain their everyday lives. Fueled by competitive drive and bragging rights, each episode features the teams competing in various timed challenges, from unbolting engines to diagnosing clip cars, for the opportunity to add more time to their team clock. Universal Technical Institute, Inc. and American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Announce Partnership

28 01 2011

CHICAGO, IL – January 26, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Universal Technical Institute, Inc. (UTI) and American Honda Motor Co., Inc. have announced plans to offer Honda’s Professional Automotive Career Training (P.A.C.T.) program at a UTI campus beginning this summer.

The program will be offered at UTI’s Glendale Heights, Ill. campus, and will be the only P.A.C.T. training location in the Metropolitan Chicago area.

Prior to participating in Honda P.A.C.T., students must complete UTI’s core automotive program. During P.A.C.T. coursework, students will have the opportunity to complete factory maintenance and repair section certifications in several areas, including Express Service, General Maintenance, Electrical Repair, Engine Repair, Transmission Repair, Fuel System Repair, Air Conditioning Repair, Steering & Suspension Repair, and Brake Repair. Upon completion of the program, a student will have completed a minimum of 63 weeks of training and be eligible for entry-level employment with participating Honda and Acura dealers.

“Many of our Honda and Acura dealers in the greater Chicago area already hire technicians from UTI. Because the dealers are in full support of this school, the P.A.C.T. program will have a head start to a successful implementation and recognize UTI as the area dealer’s choice for trained technicians,” said James Roach, Senior Vice President, Parts and Service Operations at American Honda. “The program will provide our dealers with professional Honda or Acura certified technicians, which many of our dealers would welcome, adding great value to our automotive service organization.”

“It is with great pleasure that we announce this addition to the UTI and American Honda relationship,” said Greg Dickson, UTI’s vice president of customer solutions and advanced training.  “American Honda and its associated automobile brands have a tremendous reputation in the marketplace and we are honored to be chosen to administer the P.A.C.T. training at UTI to service both its Honda and Acura dealers.”

UTI holds a long-standing history of training programs with American Honda and has offered Honda training for more than 24 years at UTI’s Motorcycle Mechanics Institute and for 14 years at UTI’s Marine Mechanics Institute.
