Queen Mary Motorcycle Madness Long Beach Video Released by XDL Championship Series

20 07 2012

Los Angeles, CA (July 19, 2012) — For the first time ever, motorcycles are being ridden on the Queen Mary in Long Beach in a ground-breaking video created by the XDL Championship Series. Follow the exploits of stowaways Ernie Vigil, Nick Brocha and Damon Barda as they try to find a way off the famous ship. Vigil, an XDL competitor and street freestyle rider powers his Triumph through the big rooms, while trials rider Damon Barda squeezes his way through all the nooks and crannies. Titled “The Stowaways” this creatively executed film is part of the upcoming Queen Mary Motorcycle Madness Long Beach event on August 3 & 4, 2012.

“This was a big production for us,” stated XDL Founder Randy Grube. “We had to develop the concept, get all the approvals, make sure we had a good storyline and then execute. What I like about this film is that it shows how innovative we can be and how well we can combine with more traditional parts of the industry.”

Racing 905 Steps Up as New Title Sponsor of XDL Championship Series Sickest Trick Competition

10 07 2012

LOS ANGELES, CA – July 10, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – For the last 4 seasons, Chula Vista, CA-based Racing 905 has been a strong supporter of XDL. In 2011 Racing 905 took a big step in sponsoring the Racing 905 Speed & Style competition, and this season, Racing 905 is going even bigger by taking over as title sponsor for the Racing 905 Sickest Trick. The Racing 905 Sickest Trick competition format gives a rider one minute in which he or she can perform any one trick. If the trick is completed, then the rider is scored by fellow competitors, and the rider with the highest score walks away with $1,000 in cold hard cash.

“Sickest Trick has always been our most popular competitions,” stated XDL series founder Randy Grube. “To now have Racing 905 as the title sponsor is icing on the cake because that group of people has been around XDL and supported us for many years. In fact Racing 905 is the only XDL sponsor that is on the ground at every event, helping to set up and tear down and manage the show. It’s a great relationship and we’re glad we have Racing 905 on our team.”

“We’ve been with XDL for a long time and in this sport for even longer,” remarked Racing 905 founder Aaron Celiceo. “So for us to become such an integrated part of XDL is really cool because as XDL is getting bigger and establishing itself in countries outside the U.S., it helps us grow the Racing 905 brand and visibility for our products. XDL has come a long way and we’re in this for the long haul.”

Racing 905 was established in 2000, in San Diego, CA by Aaron, Adrian and Stephanie Celiceo and Tim Knight. With a rich history in off-road fabrication, Racing 905 turned to the street motorcycle market when it recognized an unmet need for crash protection products for the new breed of street riders. The result was the development of the first 3-point crash cage that was soon patented as (US 6910704 B1) and named Racing 905 Stunt Armor. Today Racing 905 has evolved into one of the major fabricators of street bike stunt accessories and has a following that spans the globe.

K&N Filters Continues with XDL Championship Series Sponsorship in 2012

12 06 2012

LOS ANGELES, CA – June 12, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – K&N filters will continue its multi-year partnership with the XDL Championship Series through the 2012 season and return as the title sponsor of the K&N Circle Challenge. The K&N Circle Challenge is a bracket competition that pits two riders in a head-to-head battle to determine the first rider to reach 10 circle rotations. It is one of the most fast-paced, fun-to-watch and innovative competitions in XDL because it combines the ultimate skill of a street freestyle rider, with the head-to-head format of racing. It is the best of both worlds and its continued popularity with fans proves this. The K&N Circle Challenge is also the only truly “open” format where the displacement of a motorcycle can be any type without putting a rider at a disadvantage. As XDL expands into markets such as India, where displacements are in the 150cc to 220cc range, this format could turn out to be a core competition element because it allows for top riders from XDL to go up against top riders from India without the need to standardize motorcycle categories. The K&N/XDL relationship for 2012 will also include several marketing and social media initiatives that will seek to cross over audiences from both brands.

Commented Randy Grube, founder of XDL: “K&N has been an XDL partner for two seasons now and we are excited to continue the relationship in 2012. K&N is one of those rare companies that puts their money where their mouth is, which is such a great help when you are building a new sport from scratch. In my position as the guy that started XDL, its all about the long term. And everyone always says that it’s important to think long term and invest accordingly, but when push comes to shove, very, very few companies do it. Nick and Johnny at K&N decided from the beginning that XDL was a long-term play and that the biggest benefits would be a few years down the road. It is this type of support that has allowed XDL to grow and we’re glad to have it for another year.”

“K&N prides itself in supporting the highest quality of racing and racers in all forms of motorsports and powersports events. Supporting and getting involved with these types of venues showcases the talents of today’s top motorsports athletes.  Events like these that drive us to continue to build and market the products we have produced for the past 40 years.  K&N’s involvement in the 2012 XDL Championship Series is no different,” states Johnny Jump, Brand Manager, K&N Engineering.  “We are very excited to support the riding at this level that will drive fans to these events and hopefully continue to grow this sport into the future of motorcycling. The street freestyle events cater to a younger generation and it exceeds the limitations set by the manufacturers for how these motorcycles were designed to be ridden. It becomes an art form like no other form of motor sports.”

K&N Engineering, of Riverside, California, is the inventor and leading innovator of reusable cotton gauze filter technology for automotive applications. From humble beginnings as a family run business over 40 years ago, K&N Engineering, now a truly global company with offices in the U.K. and the Netherlands, continues to exist as an internationally run business with a heavy enthusiast mindset and a direct connection with motor sports that carries over throughout all levels of management and manufacturing.

Today, K&N exists as both the sales and brand leader for performance filters, and maintains a stocking catalogue of over 5,500 part numbers, including an extensive line of both factory replacement High-Flow™ Air Filters, Performance Air Intake Systems, and its line of innovative Wrench-Off™ Synthetic Oil Filters.  With its in depth coverage of Powersports applications within each market segment, K&N Performance Filters has become a sought after performance upgrade for racing and track enthusiasts and a long-life alternative for touring and adventure riders across the country.

Icon Motorsports Joins 2012 XDL Championship Series

27 03 2012

LOS ANGELES, CA – March 27, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – The XDL Championship Series will partner with ICON Motosports for the 2012 season in a wide-ranging program that includes brand integration in live events, TV, videos, internet properties, as well as cross-promotions at non-XDL events and in social media. The centerpiece of the program will be a cooperation at the XDL Finals at Portland International Raceway to create the ICON XDL PDX Bike Fest. This event will embrace Portland’s diverse motorcycle culture and encompass multiple track events, including the XDL Finals, rides, a bike show and of course parties in town.

Said XDL founder Randy Grube: “We take a fundamentally different approach to working with sponsors than at other leagues. We are not interested in short-term gains and we don’t sell space to hang banners. We look for companies that share our vision and fit our brand, and vice-versa. It takes almost three years to go from identifying a potential partner, to the time we declare an official working relationship. We’ve had our eyes on ICON for many years and last year we finally had a chance to sit down and talk on multiple occasions. That opportunity really helped us understand ICON as a brand, and it also helped ICON understand XDL and our future direction. The fit between the two brands and the fit between the people is really incredible. I feel like we are very complimentary to each other and I really look forward to the 2012 season with ICON on board.”

ICON Motosports operations manager Justin Knauer added: “XDL and Icon are very similar as we both have started small and grown tremendously because we wanted to offer something better to the motorcycling community while facing the always difficult task of redefining something that has been around for a very long time. For example: XDL fought the stigma of ‘stunt riders’ being a lawless group of individuals and Icon fought the stigma that all protective motorcycle apparel had to be a full race suit. It’s commonalities like this that create a desire and confidence to work with XDL as we feel both brands will continue to push motorcycling into new territory for the good of all involved.”

2012 XDL Championship Series Schedule

Icon does not exist within a vacuum. We are both influenced by and influence the greater world of motorcycling. Stunters, fighters, rats, sportys, choppers, cafes, flattrackers, roadracers, scooters, antiques, minibikes, and oddball mashup customs have an equal place under the Icon tent. Combine these cultures with our fundamental goal of championing the street riders cause (i.e. protecting your ass) and you have the core of the brand we call Icon.

2012 XDL Championship Series Features New Vision, New Venues and New Content

20 03 2012

LOS ANGELES, CA – March 20, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Over the off-season XDL re-examined its role in the motorcycle industry, and the larger context of global markets. The result is an effort we call XDL 2.0, which positions us as a world-wide competition brand based on the sport of stunt riding. The underlying fundamentals to XDL 2.0 are the following facts:

  1. 85% of all motorcycles world-wide are sold in China, India, Indonesia and Vietnam
  2. Almost 60% of XDL fans are from overseas
  3. Stunt riding is a global lifestyle sport with a dynamic similar to skateboarding

In simple terms, there are a lot of 18-34 year old motorcyclists around that world that participate in or are interested in stunt riding. In India, MTV already has a show called Stunt Mania. XDL 2.0 is a 5-year plan to develop a global competition infrastructure to reach into these vast markets.  At the heart of XDL’s global appeal is the content we create at our events in the U.S. This is where it all starts. So with an eye towards offering the best possible content for a live audience as well as for video, we reengineered our competition schedule and brought in several new venues. The 2012 schedule is the start of a 5-year effort to develop an XDL schedule that covers both coasts and major markets in between, for a total of 12-14 events by 2016.

New for this year are Budds Creek, Albuquerque (ABQ) and Portland (PDX). And we will be back at the Queen Mary for the first time since 2008. The season opener in Budds Creek represents our first step in building a base in the Northeast corridor and is a partnership with the MIROCK Fast By Gast/WPGC Bike Fest. This existing lifestyle event offers a built-in enthusiast audience for XDL. Round 2 in Long Beach sees a return to the site of some of our most successful events, this time in a partnership with the Queen Mary. Round 3 is our now famous stop in Indianapolis as part of the Red Bull Indianapolis GP. Round 4 in ABQ at NAPA Speedway is brand new and allows us for the first time to create a true week-long stunt festival that will allow riders of all levels to be part of the fun. XDL will end the season in September with the XDL Finals at Portland International Raceway.

XDL’s return to race track venues is in line with the hottest trend in motorcycling: drifting. Venues such as those we have in ABQ and PDX will allow us to feature the best drifters as part of an XDL event. We expect to see many “firsts” this year, as well as a lot of mind-blowing video content.

XDL Championship Series Reaches Out To Flat Track Community

22 08 2011

LOS ANGELES, CA – August 22, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – The tragedy that struck the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Saturday August 13, has also affected the motorcycle industry. On August 19, the AMA Pro Racing Indy Mile Flat Track Grand National was cancelled due to the ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident, leaving many AMA competitors without a home on the Red Bull Indianapolis GP weekend.

In an effort to extend a helping hand, the XDL Championship Series is offering free admission, as well as the opportunity to set up a booth free of charge to AMA Pro flat track hard card holders. Stated XDL founder Randy Grube: “What happened at the Fairgrounds was horrible and now it is having a direct effect on the motorcycle industry. We are a tight-knit community and we’d like to do what we can to help fellow competitors. Many have already committed to being in town this weekend, have non-refundable airline tickets and the like, but without a place to set up, these guys will be forced into a state of limbo. We have a beautiful facility at the Indiana War Memorial in downtown Indy, with a little bit of extra space so we thought we’d let flat track teams settle in at XDL, should they so desire. I know it’s not a replacement for running a race, but at least now there is a chance to interact with fans. “

Flat track competitors are requested to contact XDL at info@xdlshow.com to request a free booth space and to be placed on the will call list.

Graves Stunt Rider Bill Dixon Earns Important Win in Monterey

27 07 2011

KENNESAW, GA – July 27, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Graves Stunt Rider Bill Dixon had his work cut out for him going into Round 4 of the XDL Championship Series in Monterey, CA on July 22-23. In addition to his XDL competition duties, Dixon also had four stunt shows to perform at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. To make things even more interesting, Dixon had to drive a massive 40 hours from a show in Pennsylvania to Monterey. Probably not the best way to prep for a competition!

Ahead by nine points in the FMF Cup but trailing by four points overall going into Round 4, Dixon was more determined than ever to win at Monterey. A win at Monterey and Indy’s Round 5 would mean becoming the first ever three-time national champion.

As the world’s top freestyle riders descended on Monterey for the six different XDL classes, Dixon feared his intense concentration on the dangerous and pressure-filled task at hand would be compromised by his stunt show performances that same weekend. In the end, he had nothing to worry about. “I ended up having so much fun at the stunt shows that I think the positive energy from the shows gave me a confidence boost for XDL!” exclaimed Dixon.

Dixon and his Graves Yamaha R6 qualified in first place for the FMF Cup. “Going into the last round I was nine points ahead, so I just went out and landed my big hit tricks to finish off the competition for a first place finish,” said Dixon of his stellar weekend.

His winning didn’t stop there. After calling his shot in K&N Circle Challenge earlier in the day on the Versus show Inside XDL, Dixon stomped the competition and came out with another first place. By the end of the weekend Dixon trailed the overall points leader by a mere two points.

The pressure is on more than ever now heading into Round 5 at Indianapolis. Come out to the Indiana War Memorial in downtown Indianapolis on August 26 – 27 to see if Bill Dixon can accomplish his dream of becoming a three-time national champion!

Watch Bill Dixon’s first hand perspective from the Yamaha marketplace at Laguna Seca in this video compliments of Graves Motorsports.

XDL Championship Series Finalizes Monterey Venue For Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix Weekend

27 04 2011

LOS ANGELES, CA – April 26, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – After adding Monterey, CA as a signature event for the 2011 season, the XDL Championship Series has now finalized venue arrangements for the July 22 & 23 Round 4 competition, which will showcase the best street freestyle riders in the world at the Depot Lot in downtown Monterey. The Depot Lot sits right on the waterfront in one of the most picturesque settings imaginable. It is located next to Del Monte Ave. on the way to Cannery Row, immediately before the tunnel entrance and right in front of Old Fisherman’s Wharf, making it quite possibly the best location in town.

By becoming part of the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix weekend, XDL is able to close out the season with back to back MotoGP events with the Red Bull Indianapolis GP following on August 26 & 27. It shows just how far street freestyle has come in 5 seasons, from being a fringe player to now becoming an integral part of the two most prestigious motorcycle events in the nation. “I couldn’t be more excited to be part of the Monterey weekend” stated XDL founder Randy Grube. “The location puts one of the most exciting motorcycle properties in one of the most beautiful locations  as part of one of the most significant events, and XDL will be sure to do its share to make this a weekend for everyone to remember.”

As with the Red Bull Indianapolis GP, the XDL schedule runs from 5pm to 10pm in the evening on both days so race fans have a chance to shower up and grab a bite before hitting town for the night.

The XDL venue also provides an excellent opportunity for companies to set up a booth to market and/or sell product to the many fans that will be in attendance. Space is very limited and about half of it is already spoken for. If you are looking to target the motorcycle youth market or this is your first foray into the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix weekend, XDL offers an excellent opportunity to reach new customers. For more information on availability and pricing please contact Randy Grube at randy@xdlshow.com.

The remaining 2011 XDL Championship Series schedule is:

  • Round 3: Nashville, TN – XDL Freeride Festival – @ Nashville Superspeedway – June 10 & 11
  • Round 4: Monterey, CA – With MotoGP – @ Downtown Monterey – July 22 & 23
  • Round 5: Indianapolis, IN – With MotoGP – @ Downtown Indianapolis – August 26 & 27

9 02 2011

LOS ANGELES, CA – February 9, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Sartso Killer Kevlar® Jeans will be returning to the XDL Championship Series for the 2011 Season as the title sponsor of the Sartso Women’s Cup. The program, first started in 2010, is revolutionary because it creates a professional outlet for the increasing number of women in the street freestyle scene. Last year the Sarto Women’s Cup was scheduled for only 3 events but ended up being held at every series stop due to popular demand. And it was featured in ESPN’s X Games 16 XDL demonstration. 2010 champion Dena Sodano reflected on the inaugural season and 2011: “I think the Sarsto Women’s Cup definitely gave respect to the girls. Most people assumed that girls either can’t or shouldn’t be stunt riding. It’s not an easy sport. There is going to be lots to see from the XDL girls this year!”

Added XDL founder Randy Grube: “By design, this competition is about opening new frontiers on many levels and it is doing just that. It is truly exciting to be part of something that is growing so quickly.”
