Kuryakyn, Sturgis Buffalo Chip Debut Signature Built at Donnie Smith Bike & Car Show

30 03 2017

SOMERSET, WI – March 30, 2017 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Kuryakyn® and the Sturgis Buffalo Chip® kicked off the Midwest’s biggest bike show with a bang, debuting the 2017 Rock, Rumble & Rebellion signature build in front of a packed house at the 30th annual Donnie Smith Bike & Car Show.

Representing seven days of electrifying racing in August at the Buffalo Chip Moto Stampede™, the sleek, industrial appearance of the 2017 Harley-Davidson® Street Glide® strikes a balance of refinement and straight-up rawness.

“As an aftermarket company, we were honored to take on the challenge of representing the Buffalo Chip’s 35th anniversary last year with a bike build,” said Holger Mohr, Kuryakyn President. “As enthusiasts first and foremost, this year’s focus of bringing racing back to the Chip is equally exciting for us. The Kuryakyn design team came up with an authentic race theme that truly embodies the ‘rumble’ in Rock, Rumble and Rebellion. There’s no better way to introduce our newest products to core Kuryakyn customers, and we’re proud to do it alongside the Buffalo Chip on the biggest stage in the motorcycle industry.”

One of the main focal points on the purpose-built bagger is the freshly reimagined Hypercharger™ ES air cleaner. Symbolizing the evolution of one of Kuryakyn’s most iconic products, the Hypercharger ES features a radical new design with state-of-the-art electronic throttle response butterfly engagement. The integrated servomotor actuates the butterflies with every twist of the throttle, creating an interactive experience with the motorcycle that’s unlike anything available.

Additionally, more than 35 Kuryakyn accessories are featured on the build including select pieces from the new Mesh and Riot collections, as well as the soon-to-be-released Precision line of engine chrome for the Milwaukee-Eight®. Renowned custom shop Gilby’s Street Dept. of River Falls, Wis., laid down a monochromatic race-inspired paint theme that marries everything together to create a cohesive push-pull of mechanical grit and class.

”The 2017 Rock, Rumble & Rebellion bike created by Kuryakyn truly captures the free spirit the biker community brings to the Chip every year,” said Rod Woodruff, Sturgis Buffalo Chip President. “The exhilaration of racing, the intensity of the concerts and the pure joy of the ride are represented in the power and beauty of this custom. Kuryakyn really hit it out of the park again.”

The build sheet also includes a host of familiar names including Jim Nasi Customs (Kuryakyn Signature Series Dash Console), a handmade custom-designed Mustang Seat, “Formula” wheels (21” front, 18” rear) and rotors from Performance Machine, “Razorback” Drag Bars from FMB Choppers, and “Milano” inverted front suspension from Italian-based manufacturer ODC.

The Rock, Rumble & Rebellion bike will be hitting the road and participating in various rides and events scheduled on Kuryakyn’s 2017 rally tour. Official media partner American Iron Magazine will also feature the custom Street Glide in issue #352, which hits newsstands on July 18.

Following the Sturgis Buffalo Chip’s 36th year of music, motorcycles and revelry held Aug. 4-12, the Rock, Rumble & Rebellion Street Glide will be offered for private sale. Anyone interested in purchasing the bike may call the Sturgis Buffalo Chip at 605-347-9000.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Rally Team mount challenge for FIM World Championship Title

30 03 2017

Quintanilla Defends 2016 Title; Renet Out To Impress

March 30, 2017 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Rally Team go to the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, the first round of the 2017 FIM Cross Country Rally World Championship well prepared to defend the brand’s 2016 world title. Pablo Quintanilla of Chile rides with the number one plate as he launches his bid to defend his title. Teammate Pela Renet is also out to deliver another impressive ride as he continues to consolidate his rally career.

Quintanilla secured the 2016 title in the series at the OiLibya Rally in Morocco last October, finishing with 96 points, and a seven-point lead over British rider Sam Sunderland. It was Quintanilla’s first world title and the first for his native Chile. Renet, who contested his second Dakar Rally in January with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Team, reached the finish line for the first time in an excellent overall seventh. The French rider and has now joined the elite group of professional rally-raid riders capable of delivering podium finishes in these tests of endurance, skill, and speed. Renet came to the team as a world enduro champion and proved in his 2017 Dakar Rally ride that he has successfully made the transition to rally-raid competition.

Both riders go into the opening round with enthusiasm and confidence.

Pablo Quintanilla: “After Dakar I needed to be strong and to prepare to come back even stronger than before. I have been training pretty hard in Chile to prepare for the season, which this year is very special for me because I am the world champion. I want to continue like this and I am ready and full of motivation to go racing.”

Pela Renet: “Straight after Dakar, I took some time off but then I started training again at home and by riding together with some enduro riders. We have also had some weeks training in Spain and Morocco, and we did testing with the new bike, so I feel good going into the season.”

The season’s opener begins with the traditional Super Special on Saturday, April 1st at the Yas Marina, a dash that decides the starting order for the opening stage on Sunday. Riders tackle five stages in the Liwa Desert of between 350 and 550 km, and the competition concludes on Thursday, April 6.

There is very little respite for the team who then immediately prepare for the second round of the world championship nearby Qatar, which is only one week separating the two rallies.

The 2017 FIM Cross Country Rally World Championship is made up of the two Gulf States rallies, two in South America in August – the Atacama Rally in Chile and the Desafio Ruta in Argentina, again one week apart, and the final round, the traditional OiLibya Rally in Morocco on October.

2017 FIM Cross Country Rally World Championship Calendar

  • April 1-6: Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, United Arab Emirates
  • April 17-22: Qatar Cross Country Rally
  • August 12-18: Atacama Rally, Chile

Motorcycles and Art: Redefining the Feminine Form

30 03 2017

BROOKLYN, NY – March 30, 2017 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – MotorGrrl Garage presents the premiere of Grace Roselli’s NAKED BIKE PROJECT and Susana Rico’s VIRAGOS PROJECT April 28th from 7-11pm.

Grace Roselli is a Brooklyn born artist, bad-ass and longtime moto enthusiast. In her ‘NAKED BIKE PROJECT’, she  reimagines the visual portrayal of women who ride within the context of contemporary art, society and motorcycle culture. Roselli’s large-scale photographs, paintings and collages combine the idea of the motorcycle–a machine associated with sexuality, rebellion and freedom– with the narrative and aesthetic of a woman’s body. Naked Bike is about the journey— the beginning of a provocative and culture-shifting ride.

Susana Rico, originally from Portugal, is a New York based photographer. Her VIRAGOS PROJECT is a portrait series of tintypes depicting women riders and their motorcycles. Virago was a title of respect and admiration for heroic women in a masculine society and a woman could earn it if she surpassed the perceived expectations of her gender. Susana sees women bikers as challenging the conventions of gender, making them contemporary Viragos. She chose to use the traditional tintype technique because of a timeless, powerful, and indestructible feeling, echoing the power, strength and beauty of her subjects.

MotorGrrl, a female owned and operated motorcycle garage in Greenpoint, Brooklyn has revolutionized the motorcycle community by creating a new concept motorcycle community and garage. Valerie Figarella, its owner says, you are not just an anonymous face under a helmet at MotorGrrl. You are part of a community that celebrates the motorcycle and the women and men who ride them. Hayden Takes Top Spot In Dunlop Test At COTA

29 03 2017

Gerloff Again Leads Supersport Class

AUSTIN, TX – March 29, 2017 – (Motor Sports Newswire) –  Yoshimura Suzuki’s Roger Hayden turned the tables on the competition during the final day of the Dunlop Preseason Test at Circuit of The Americas, the Kentuckian clicking off a 2:08.305 late in the last session of day two to take the top spot.

Roger Hayden rode his Yoshimura Suzuki to the fastest time at the COTA test.

Hayden was .127 of a second better than his teammate Toni Elias, the Spaniard having logged the best Motul Superbike class time yesterday. Third quickest, and the final rider to break into the 2:08s, was two-time defending MotoAmerica Superbike Champion Cameron Beaubier. Beaubier was a tick over half a second off Hayden’s best.

Hayden’s quickest time was .459 of a second faster than Beaubier’s best from last year’s Dunlop test at COTA, and .846 of a second faster than Hayden’s pole time at last year’s race here. The top men all did their times on Wednesday afternoon using the latest generation of Dunlop qualifying tires.

“That felt good that last session,” Hayden said. “Not just the qualifier, but with the softer race tire I did a bunch of 2:09s there so I was really excited about that. I was actually going to try to keep trying to go and see how many low 9s I could do, but the boys wanted me to come in and try the qualifiers. That’s always fun, the qualifiers, having so much grip and going for it one lap. Overall, I’m really happy. We got through a lot of stuff and being fast from the get-go helps a lot. We kinda hit a little bit of a wall yesterday afternoon and this morning we got stuck at a lap time and then this afternoon we started making steps again. We lost a session due to weather and another with an accident, but we leave here with a lot of information. We need to improve in some areas and we still have a long ways to go, but I’m ready to get this season going.”

Garrett Gerloff – Monster Energy/Yamalube/Y.E.S./Graves Yamaha.

Monster Energy/Graves Yamaha’s Josh Hayes was fourth fastest, the four-time Superbike Champion lapping at a best of 2:09.696.

Quicksilver Latus Motors Kawasaki’s Bobby Fong was the fastest of the Superstock 1000 riders and was up amongst the Superbikes on his ZX-10R. Fong dropped down to a best of 2:09.745 in the final session on a bike that has yet to be modified to the new Superstock specs. Fong won both Superstock 1000 races at COTA a year ago.

Sixth fastest was Millennium Technologies/Lucas Oil/KWR’s Kyle Wyman, the team owner/racer lapping at 2:10.521 to best Wheels In Motion/Western Services/Meen Yamaha’s Josh Herrin. Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Mathew Scholtz, Broaster Chicken Honda’s Jake Gagne and Fly Racing/Motul/ADR Motorsports’ Cameron Petersen rounded out the top 10 from today’s sessions.

Garrett Gerloff was again the fastest of the Supersport racers, the Monster Energy/Yamalube/Y.E.S./Graves Yamaha rider stepping up big on day two to slice 1.4 seconds off his best from yesterday. Gerloff lapped at 2:11.728, which was .271 of a second under his pole position time from last year’s Supersport race at COTA.

That put him .658 of a second ahead of M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Valentin Debise, the Frenchman’s best also coming in the last of four 50-minute sessions today. Debise’s best was a hair quicker than Gerloff’s Yamaha teammate JD Beach, the 2015 MotoAmerica Supersport Champion ending up third quickest after the two-day test.

Rickdiculous Racing’s Daytona Anderson jumped up to fourth fastest, a tad over half a second faster than yesterday’s fourth-placed rider Brandon Paasch on the second M4 ECSTAR Suzuki. Paasch slipped down a spot to fifth.

“It was a good day,” Gerloff said. “We figured out some things with this new bike. Even though there are some things that are similar to last year, it is a new bike and we have to find different settings for the tracks we go to. The tracks we have been testing on are a lot more flowing and fast and not a lot of hard braking compared to this track where it doesn’t flow very well and there’s a lot of hard braking. They demand two different setups and we struggled a bit with that yesterday. Today, with the better track conditions and everything, we were able to figure out some things that we couldn’t yesterday with the wind. Everything is feeling good and ready for the race in three weeks.”

Free Dealer Registration for 2017 American International Motorcycle Expo Presented by Nationwide Now Open

29 03 2017

New Columbus Location Puts The Powersports Industry’s Expo Close To Dealers

IRVINE, CA – March 29, 2017 – (Motor Sports Newswire) –  Motorcycle and powersports dealerships can start planning for the 2017 American International Motorcycle Expo (AIMExpo) presented by Nationwide, with the opening of the show’s free dealer registration portal. In a new location and at a new time, the Motorcycle Industry Council produced AIMExpo will fill up the entire exhibition space at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio, from September 21-24. The highly-anticipated move puts the industry’s biggest show within 500 miles of 41% of the nation’s dealers, making the event – where 2018 products will be launched – more accessible to dealership personnel than ever before.

Qualified dealers will discover a streamlined registration process for their free trade-attendee credential that secures access to a variety of valuable tools and experiences at the industry’s only all-inclusive powersports expo. Kicking off AIMExpo’s four-day format are two days dedicated specifically to trade and media. Dealers, industry and media attendees will have the opportunity to personally interact with and view global and North American new product introductions from OEMs and aftermarket companies.

At the Powersports DEALER Seminars presented by PowerSports Business (PSB), retailers will have free access to a wide range of seminars geared toward enhancing their business and helping it reach its ultimate potential. Presenters are among the best and brightest leaders in the industry, as selected by PSB. Dealers will also be able to participate in demo rides on a variety of machines at AIMExpo Outdoors!

“Creating a valuable dealer experience, including educational seminars that help make a dealer’s business more effective and profitable, and a showcase of the industry’s new products that will drive sales in 2018 are vital reasons why a dealer needs to attend,” said Cinnamon Kernes, AIMExpo Show Director. “We recognize the investment a dealer needs to make in time and expense to attend, and we are working hard to provide a substantial ROI for their investment.”

She added, “the new central location makes AIMExpo less than a day’s drive for nearly half of the U.S. dealers and only a short flight for even more. The downtown Columbus location will remind many dealers of industry shows from previous years, except the weather will be warm! As the only convention in town, we’re looking forward to having the powersports industry take over downtown Columbus, bringing to life the tight-knit community that we all know and love.”

Dealer registration is free to all motorcycle and powersports dealers at AIMExpoUSA.com/register. In addition, dealers will find information about where to stay with special show rates at host hotels.

Dealers with questions about AIMExpo or registering to attend can call toll free at 855-MC-SHOWS (855-627-4697) or visit AIMExpoUSA.com for more general show information.

Be sure to stay tuned to the AIMExpoUSA.com website and keep up to date on exciting news as it happens by visiting AIMExpo’s social media pages. “Like” the American International Motorcycle Expo on Facebook, and “Follow” on Twitter or Instagram: @AIMExpo.

Industry Leader Launches ROR Brands

29 03 2017

Former MAG Exec Rod Derifield Back In The Saddle

SANTA ANA, CA – March 29, 2017 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Powersports industry brand builder and entrepreneur Rod Derifield is back in the saddle… literally. Most recently President of the Motorsport Aftermarket Group (MAG) Off-Road Group, including DragonFire, Malcolm Smith Racing, ProTaper, QuadBoss and Renthal, Derifield is launching ROR Brands. ROR’s initial products will focus on seats and related accessories with imminent plans to expand into other arenas. The first look at the business will be at the Laughlin River Run.

“ROR Brands is founded on strength of passion for the powersports industry and our commitment to elevate the riding experience,” says Derifield. After managing five MAG brands with more than $50 million in sales in the U.S. and the U.K., Derifield has seen the loyalty and passion that riders have, and it is a vision he shares. “We want every rider to enjoy every ride in comfort… for as long as they want.”

Prior to the powersports industry, Derifield pioneered advancements in the life sciences field. “There are many design technologies and materials used in the medical device industry that are a natural fit for a motorcycle, ATV or UTV,” he explains. “After building various brands in the motorcycle industry since 2012, I could clearly visualize the road to synergy of materials, design, and technology from medical device and life science industries with the need to alleviate some of the ‘pain in the butt’ aspects of being in the saddle all day.”

Analysis, planning and strategy clarified some of the industry needs. However, it was the passion, strength, and loyalty of the powersports community and the opportunity to acquire Royal Riding that convinced Rod the time was right to launch ROR Brands. “We are only getting started… the powersports industry will be hearing more from ROR,” concludes Derifield.

Look for the ROR Brands roll out at the Royal Riding display during the Laughlin River Run, April 26-29, 2017. For more information on ROR BRANDS and its products, e-mail rod@rorbrands.com, call (714) 325-5572 or click on https://royalriding.com/pages/ror-brands-inc
